Mary Lorson and Saint Low

There's a Madder Rose thread of sorts here if you are so inclined (it's them vs. Magnapop but most everyone went for MR, as is right and proper), but nothing for Ms. Lorson's work since then. Though Billy Cote is still part of it all, to be sure, as coproducer and guitar player. I'm listening to the newest album Realistic now, initially a hair too much AAA format oddness (I think it must be the piano) but the hints of what Dr. C mentions on the other thread about paisley underground and Brill Building strands are still there, if slightly sublimated. Anyone else keeping track? I admit I didn't even know this was out, I just found it on clearance at Amoeba a few weeks back and didn't hesitate.

And I've just hit the first really grand song on the album, "Spider" -- slow, majestic, moody but still brightly sung.

I have no idea who my ideal woman is, but I'm positive that she has a voice like Mary's.

both of her other saint low records have some very lovely moments, but i never felt quite as excited about them as the first two madder rose albums..

i'm a little cooler on realistic than the first two st low albums, but its still good dtuff. but tracks like 'walk on by' off the first and the evan dando collab on the second are easily equals to my favourite madder rose stuff.

and i don't think madder rose ever made a bad album; 'tragic magic' is patchy and misguided, but there's some real gems there - 'don greene', 'hung up on you', the track billy sings. and their last one was about as good as 'panic on' (my fave of theirs), it just took a little longer to sink in.

Can anyone explain to me the logic of all this? Billy Cote just realized that his vision had been judged lacking by the public, and decided to put his guitar in Mary's service? Is he co-writing on the Saint Low stuff? Does he have a solo project? A very weird path, it seems to me.
