How does Ernie not have his own thread yet? I mean, hell, Shotgun Boogie alone could have its own thread.

i'm going to put in for his 'signature track' (although not his in writing credit): "sixteen tons"--a beautiful, fateful track to later be molested by the Eels.

For years all I knew was Sixteen Tons and Cousin' Vampin' Ernie, but getting into his Hilbilly Boggie is the best thing I've done musically in years.

Unfortunately, when Hymns hit big, he made waaaaaaaay too many dodgy gospel records. Some good ones too, but man was cutting like 3 gospel albums a year for a while there. Bound to be some slippage. When it came to rockabilly/boogie fusion, though, no one could top him. There was a great Masters 1949-1975 box set that is out of print, but the Proper box set (UK) is pretty solid, from what I've heard.

i think there's some other thread where i mentioned going to the ernie ford museum in bristol, tenn., which is just his childhood house fixed up with a few display cases and memorabilia. it's a really small house. smelled kinda funny. to get in i had to call someone from the local historical society to come unlock it.

I just came across this yesterday, had no idea it existed - a rockin go-go remake of 16 Tons from '65. Really swings imho:
