The Horrors - "Sheena Is A Parasite"

Absurdly dank 'n' creeby Chris Cunningham video for some basically unknown (?) English "garage punk band." Music is heavy on the Birthday Party / Pussy Galore / J&MC tip, but with more mod cons & stuff. Vid is like a rock 'n' roll version of Rubber Johnny. Not as funny or mindblowing as that mini-opus, but still pretty dim cool.

See here now...

P.S. Ain't there already an American GPB going by the same nom-de-fuzz? Or is this somehow the same outfit with different haccents?

Ace! Very Cunningham, considering it's not the sort of song he usually directs for, I think.

I haven't a thing by (the band that will forevermore be known as) the American Horrors. I gave up on trying to keep current re: In the Red a few years ago.

And while I don't love this tune, the vid kills me. Not sure the band are quite what the hype presents them as, though. The drums and noise elements sound awful damn sculpted and looped. Like a "digital hardcore" version of The Hunches.

Still, one of the best things of this sort I've heard outta the Ewe'kay in quite a while...

I prefer the Arctic Monkeys.

The Horror, a Leeds hardcore punk band are way better, I can assure you.
Anybody who's current album features a song called 'Still Hate Thatcher' must be rather good.

Yeah I want to hear the Horror - ex-Voorhees members right?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 20 July 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

Colonel, you are spot on.
Saw The Horror in Leeds and it was probably as close as I ever got to Boston or Washington DC in '81 - but with a good dose of humour thrown in.
The singer was spot on with his badly fitting 'dad coloured' levis, comical prowling and great snotty/jokey delivery.

"Sheena" does nothing for me but I like the organ and hey!s in "Count in Fives":

one year passes...

"The Horrors have managed to rope in acclaimed video director Chris Cunningham to produce their second album.

The band have asked the renowned fear-maker and king of artistic terror to help them out with their second attempt at an album. Cunningham has previously worked with the band, directing their ‘Sheena is a Parasite’ video.

"He hasn’t done music production before but I think it'll be really special. The results so far are really encouraging,” frontman Faris Rotter told XFM.

"The ideas that he has are really cinematic and there aren't really that many contemporary producers who have that kind of vision of their own and put that kind of stamp on something and I think he could be one of those."

The Horrors were recently dropped by their label Loog."

LOL, I suppose his ideas would be cinematic seeing as he knows nothing about producing records.

I liked their first e.p. quite a bit. Can't say I've listened to it recently, tho'.
