Reliable sync software?

I'm looking at a fixed hard drive, a portable hard drive and my iPod and trying to get on top of updating them all without accidentally deleting strays & misfits...

What do you all use? I'm getting tired of erasing drive (old/backup) contents and just copying drive (new) contents across and it taking a little bit longer each time.

What's free that I can TRUST to automate this a bit?

(p.s. no, I absolutely do NOT trust iTunes with this. Don't try to convert me now, it wont happen).

ta!

Whatever that is I'm sure it's more helpful than the OS X "Finder" ;-)

Microsoft SyncToy is really easy to use for straightforward file-syncing across two drives. It might not be ideal for your purposes though as it won't keep your iTunes library etc updated.

thanks! will check these out.

"straightforward file-syncing across two drives" is exactly what I'm after :) The software that came with my drive just looks... dodgy.

I shouldn't have mentioned the iPod, I have no problem getting anything on/off that and I don't use iTunes so nothing required there really.
