There isn't a thread about The Real Kids yet, an undeniable CLASSIC.

The first album is maybe one of the best punk albums of the era. I am totally serious.

All Kindsa Girls is one of the best songs from that era too.

I love the Real Kids and it's a shame they don't get the proper recognition.

Jeff K (jeff k), Sunday, 23 July 2006 01:41 (nineteen years ago)

"All Kindsa Girls" is really good. I have some comp with it and one other track. Was that their best song?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 23 July 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe not dere best, but the first single and one of the most well-known. i like my baby's book & just like darts a lot.

One and one is two. Two and one is three.

All Kindsa Girls is great. So's the B-side, can't remember the name of it at the moment.

Don't think I've ever listened to the rest of the album! Shocking, I know.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 24 July 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

Man, that first album is so good! "Taxi Boys" kills it.

FAN DEATH (teenagequiet), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Just Like Darts is a great song.
Better Be Good, too.
Shoot, I love the Real Kids.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

I love them. Great band.

The flip side to "All Kindsa Girls" is "Common At Noon".

Lassaller (Lassaller), Monday, 24 July 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think I've heard the Real Kids, but I feel as though I should have. There's a Modern Lovers connection, right? Or am I thinking of someone else...?

Tyler W (tylerw), Monday, 24 July 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

I think some of the original Modern Lovers went on to form the Real Kids, or vice versa. Maybe if you Google both those bands you'll find stuff.

Also: any band with a bass player named Alpo is always a winner.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Monday, 24 July 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

John Felice was a Ramones roadie, too, wasn't he?

>>The flip side to "All Kindsa Girls" is "Common At Noon".

That's the one. Got the Norton reissue of the 7" a year or 2 ago. Sometime I'll get the album, they have it on vinyl at Sounds That Swing in Camden, keep getting tempted by it but so far having bought it (opted for Girls In The Garage and Born Bad comps instead).

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 24 July 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

"Common at Noon" is a masterpiece. Those sleighbells! The comp "Better Be Good" is amazing.

one month passes...
The first album is great, but I prefer the live Grown Up Wrong. I really don't know what to say other than I feel it cuts deeper. The second side of the LP is unmatchable, especially the closing sequence of "Who Needs You", "Better Be Good" and "All Kindsa Girls".

CLASSIC.

Whenever I listen to the Real Kids album, I always think that Poison sounds like this band. I don't mean that in a negative way, I swear. I wonder if CC Deville listened to the Real Kids.

"Reggae Reggae" is undeniably totally utterly classic.

There's a Modern Lovers connection, right?
John Felice was a Mondern Lover. In fact, he was the first member Richman recruited for the band. He was a few years younger than everyone else, and quit before they ever recorded anything. If I remember correctly, he was still in high school and his mom wouldn't let him skip to go to L.A. to record the Kim Fowley demo.
He is also Hippie Johnny from "I'm Straight".

Has anyone heard the Foggy Notion EP?
Real Kids playing the Velvet Underground sounds very interesting...

Anyone seen them live recently? They're playing in London next month.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 6 May 2016 16:06 (ten years ago)

Nope. Real Kid--Billy Borgioli (guitar), died in 2015. He had left the group earlier

And how did I forget that John Felice played in a version of the Modern Lovers when he was 15.

Which later could become "Hippie Ernie" for Ernie Brooks.

JUst found out that the 1974 The Kids demos are up on Spotify in the Real Kids section.
Pretty dashed fine punk stuff. Would have sounded very much in place a couple of years later, probably more.
Assume that the main thing is Detroit influence. Heavy guitar dunt.
