Wait, that's the TITLE of the show? Like a series? Because that would be brilliant.

"This week's episode -- the haystack."

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 24 July 2006 01:51 (nineteen years ago)

it was an episode of new york noise, on wnye (25), i think it was shown originally on friday

nervous (cochere), Monday, 24 July 2006 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

it first aired a month or two ago, and will appear in re-runs forever and ever. New York Noise is a show funded by NYC-TV, and produced, brilliantly, by a woman named Shirley. The blind date episode was great, as was the one they shot on the "bring your kid to work day" where she got all these grade school kids to talk about the indie videos she was showing. To celebrate the release of Rip It Up and Start Again, she invited Simon on while some people got hair-cuts based on photos. One guy from WBAR brought a picture of Scars, which was pretty cool.

is it the sort've show that'd be likely to document itself on DVD? would be k-rad to see this + the Hold Steady episode, but I don't think it's gonna make it to NZ. are clips likely to surface on Youtube?

yeah... i've seen this show many times.... i live in central NJ, but we get the channel it is on... i love the show. funny themes and of course brilliant music and videos. the recently did an episode called "fire safety with the fiery furnaces"... funny stuff.

Shirley Braha!

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

I liked the episode where they had the Hold Steady field questions from a bunch of little kids at a Boys & Girls club -- after one of the kids asked Craig Finn if he had a gold record, he sheepishly explained that the Hold Steady was more of a "critics' band"

I liked that old Orange Juice vid in the orange-juice factory they showed.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

you would think that if they could get simon reynolds into a barber's they might be able to do off with his harry potter.

the dude with the scars haircut has a good radioshow that's been running for a little while (most of it is archived online):
http://wbar.org/showinfo.php?show=1411
http://wbar.org/showinfo.php?show=1302
http://wbar.org/showinfo.php?show=1082
http://wbar.org/showinfo.php?show=914
http://wbar.org/showinfo.php?show=703
http://wbar.org/showinfo.php?show=663

that's like 100+ hours of listening fun.

Youtube search for "new york noise" brings up a great PBK performance.

cnwb (cnwb), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

that a boots for dancing referance there?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

i'm guessing it is.
his old show title was "finding fruit in foreign places" which i believe is a kid creole reference. to toot my own horn, we did a show together (it's one of those links there) called "zack attack" which was mighty fine.

Heh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

omg that show is so not funny - i saw one where this guy was pretending to be some sort of agent selling indie rock songs to commercials - painful! so much less funny than any commercial. and that one with the hold steady was so embarrassing - seeing their music exposed to light like that.

but um post punk hair cuts. i was on a metro north train on monday and there was this guy with a flock of seagulls type thing going on, but more messily contemporary. he was wearing those tight tapered jeans and having a quiet passive aggressive fight with his girls friend who was way to hot for him. it seemed like she was trying to apologize - he'd look away from her for a while then turn and stare at her all intensely with his head tilted down and his eyes bugged out, as if to say i'm serous here emo girlfriend you must stop sleeping with the guy in that band - if fact i may just leave you, don't test me... anymore. then she got off and he stared out the window and pouted his way to grand central.
