Obie Trice has a new album called "Second Rounds On Me" so lets do Tequila shots off his rock hard abs.

I've always thought Obie Trice was a pretty average rapper but I am very keen on him getting the rounds in, so:

1) Are you looking foward to the new album? (The beats are more exciting than his rapping to be fair)

2) Would you go for a drink with the man? Would you compliment him on his pencil thin moustache?

You're right, Obie Trice is not a great rapper but
he's solid. I can understand why Eminem took him
under his wing. And compared to Obie Trice, everyone
in G Unit sucks hardcore.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

This album is the usual mess: he's a good rapper, and even shares a Pharoahe Monch-style flow, but he's a sucker for bad Eminem beats, and (even worse) g-unit choruses. So thjis is another 18 track, 70-something minute mess thaty tries to do everything (a Moma song, a hard song, a Jamica girl song) but is ultimately pointless...

i was hoping this was gonna be good; "Wanna Know" is very exciting.

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

As much as it is "the usual mess", it's very much the way of the rap album in recent years. I'm beginning to think, not taking into account a few exceptions, this is the norm from now on.

Rowlando for the kidz. (Sam Rowlands), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

i would do body shots off him

Obie Trice is thrice as nice!

oh, wrinklepaws! (Wrinklepaws), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Rowlando, I do agree. I also wanted the new Boot Camp Clik to be a shorter more consistent statement, but no such luck. On the Obie Trice, Wanna Know, Cry Now, Obie Story are excellent...but for every rousing track, there's an annoying plodder with hard-as-nails gun talk (Kill me a mutha, Out of state, Snitch). BTW, anyone else despise Akon as much as I do?

YES

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

The real question is-

Will Pitchfork come even close to matching the twisted majesty of their 'Cheers' review?

'Tristram Shandy', I ask you...

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

lol didnt ethan write that one?

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 23:58 (nineteen years ago)

yep, with 'a bit of help' from assorted others..

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

oh jaggerpaws

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:01 (nineteen years ago)

i think he just made that up

xpost

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:03 (nineteen years ago)

...although some would argue that Brent's Lateralus review is their finest moment...it's certainly very funny

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:04 (nineteen years ago)

i shudder to think that thinly disguised versions of my conversations about break ups and rap music are immortalized on pfork forever in an obie trice review.

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:07 (nineteen years ago)

ahaha

i have to go read that thing again

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

"Wanna Know" is very exciting

it is, but it's 99% because of the beat ...

I wish I could delete that line about the "Obie tampon" from my memory

dmr (Renard), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

haha the saddest part is that i can't remember which one of us is kid and which one of us is play at this point

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

There is definitely something approaching genius present in the creation of that review. If not genius, then certainly heroism

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

we were eating rotisserie chicken

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

this thread is like a dvd commentary of the review

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:16 (nineteen years ago)

god, that was a bleak time

filtered through obie trice!!

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

there used to be a disclaimer at the bottom that said that brent d was in no way involved in the creation of the review

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:19 (nineteen years ago)

the fact is, i've finally found one of the people responsible for one of the highlights of my early review-reading life. i feel 32% more fulfilled!!

(ok, enough self-parody. you're heading towards unchartered depths...)

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

my god what have we done

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:22 (nineteen years ago)

there used to be a disclaimer at the bottom that said that brent d was in no way involved in the creation of the review

yeah but it looks like instead they changed the spelling to "Crescendoze" and I guess assumed people will figure out he wasn't a party to it

BABY I FEEL LIKE A BUTCHER
JUST WANNA CHOP YOU UP AND CUT YA

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

I seriously cannot believe Akon seems to be taking steps to becomming the new Nate Dogg. Chorus after chorus he seems to feature on, I fear soon he will branch out from Rap and start doing chorus' for every song released hereafter.

Rowlando for the kidz (Sam Rowlands), Thursday, 27 July 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

nine months pass...
So I looked up where that "All I want is what's mine" sample on Wanna Know is from and turns it's some obscure Detroit proto-metal band called Power Of Zeus, anyone know anything about them? AMG lists 1 album, any good?
