"Survey shows MPs 'dig' Led Zeppelin"

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Among the more daring choices was Never Mind The Bo****ks Here's The Sex Pistols, nominated by Labour MP Greg Pope.

"It changed the face of music forever and meant we never had to listen to Boney M again," he said.

Very daring, that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Particularly since Boney M became the biggest selling singles act of the year after Never Mind The Bollocks was released.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

I had to listen to Boney M again.

Blummin school friends thought "Rivers of Babylon" and "Brown Girl" were awesome and played them all the time.

(xpost my point exactly)

Actually, I thought "Daddy Cool" was OK. I remember the TOTP appearance, and how it was on one of those "I love" type progs where apparently the playground talk was "That's never him singing on the record", but round our playground the talk was "spazz dancing or wot?"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

ILM 1978 would have hearted Boney M.

Meanwhile, said Mr Oaten resigns.

No doubt, as per another currently topical Human League song, he remembers when sharing was no shame.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

i think i prefer boney m's music to the sex pistols' music.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

'Rasputin' is better than most Human league songs

(OK just a few)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

It's better than most post-1986 Human League songs.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

"I'm only Rasputin, of flesh and blood am made..."

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Rasputin was an inspiration, positive and kind.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

this is why this country is in such a state.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

"and where there used to be some shops
is where Ma Baker used to hide"

TS: "Belfast" by Boney M vs. "The Lebanon" by Human League

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

Tory Mark Field said Swing Out Sister's It's Better to Travel was his favourite, commenting: "It brings back wonderful memories of my undergraduate days in the mid-to-late 1980s. It still brings me out in goose pimples and smiles."

BELFAST (Boney M)

Belfast
Belfast
Belfast

Got to have a believin'
Got to have a believin'
Got to have a believin'
All the people
Cause the people are leavin'
When the people believin'
When the people believin'
When the people believin'
All the children cause the children
Are leavin'

Belfast
Belfast
When the country rings the leaving bell you're lost
Belfast
Belfast
When the hate you have
For one another's past
You can try (You can try)
You can try (You can try)
You can try
To tell the world the reason why
Belfast
Belfast
Belfast

It's the country that's changin'
It's the country that's changin'
It's the country that's changin'
All the people
Cause the people are leavin'
It's the world that's deceivin'
It's the world that's deceivin'
It's the world that's deceivin'
All the people
Cause the people believin'

When the children believin'
When the children believin'
When the children believin'
All the people
Cause the people are leavin'
When the people are leavin' (you)
When the people are leavin'
When the people are leavin'
All the children
Cause the children believin'

THE LEBANON (Human League)

She dreams of 1969
Before the soldiers came
The life was cheap on bread and wine
And sharing meant no shame
She is awakened by the screams
Of rockets flying from nearby
And scared she clings onto her dreams
To beat the fear that she might die

And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone
From the Lebanon
The Lebanon

Before he leaves the camp he stops
He scans the world outside
And where there used to be some shops
Is where the snipers sometimes hide
He left his home the week before
He thought hed be like the police
But now he finds he is at war
Weren't we supposed to keep the peace

And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone
From the Lebanon
The Lebanon
The Lebanon
From the Lebanon

I must be dreaming
It can't be true
I must be dreaming
It can't be true

And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone?
From the Lebanon
The Lebanon
The Lebanon
From the Lebanon

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Godda give it to the Boney's then...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

We really must have "The Lebanon" played at Club Poptimism on Saturday.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 27 July 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm quite pleased I'm represented by an MP who's favorite LP is Revolver (Kevin Brennan (Lab - Cardiff West)). I might've voted for him if I'd known that.

nate woolls (napawo), Thursday, 27 July 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

I remember the first time I heard it and I thought they were singing "sherry meant no shame."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 27 July 2006 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

I danced like a maniac to "Daddy Cool" at a wedding two weeks ago. It was like a breeze had just blown in.
