Who is actually doing the Japan / Karn / Sylvian thing these days?

Are there any musicians around "doing" Japan or related to Japan Music these Days.
I just wondered...
I myself never stopped listening/playing this style, mostly on my own (fretless).
Just started a project here in Holland, with people liking this fretless work, heavily based on Mick Karn's style.

Anybody out there?

I'm not in Holland or anything -- but I like Japan and write music some have described as having Sylvian-esque qualities.

Junior Boys were particularly taken with Sylvian/Sakamoto - "Bamboo Houses"/"Bamboo Music" - haven't heard their new one though.

Um, I would think that Jansen Barbieri Karn/Medium Productions and David Sylvian are doing a pretty upstanding job "doing the Japan/Karn/Sylvian thing these days"...? Unless you're talking about artists who sound like Japan did in the '80s, or like how Mick Karn's Titles or Sylvian's Brilliant Trees sound like. In which case, whoo, I could go for that too.

you might like the new Scritti Politti album - even though he's not using the type of grooves Japan used - some of the sonics have those chimey, glinting synth sounds. quite subtle though.

Does this mean that Green has finally given up the whole hip-hop thing, then? Is it safe to re-enter the Scritti Politti pool?

I'm constantly in search of today's equivalent of Japan. Nobody has come anywhere near the grooves that Japan had.

I too play fretless, and my biggest influences are Percy Jones and Mick Karn. There's a niche in my head that needs to be filled!

"Gee, I would love to find a guy who's respectful, intelligent, mature, has good manners, loves cats and dogs, and enjoys visiting art galleries and museums."

"DUDE YOU SHOULD TOTALLY START A BAND YO."
