Doobie Brothers -- Listen to the Music

surfer_stone_rosa (surfer_stone_rosa), Saturday, 29 July 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

Eagles -- Desperado
because they would stop and get that far-away look in their eyes like Elaine's boyfriend in "Seinfeld", and I would make my escape.

Eagles--Hotel California

Doobie Brothers--If the aliens were jam oriented, Black Water. But if these aliens were more interested in a well-constructed chorus, Takin' It To The Streets.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Saturday, 29 July 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

I think playing them Please Come Home For Christmas by the Eagles would do a damn good job of getting them off my tail.

Jam-oriented aliens would be so lame.

Well I certainly wouldn't suggest any Michael McDonald era Doobies cause that'd just be asking for trouble.

Anybody who professes not to like Hotel California, the song, needs to get over themselves.

Palomino (Palomino), Saturday, 29 July 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, but I'm 100% certain it's a pred ship.

If all I had left was Eagles and Doobie Brothers, I'd put a gun to my head, fast.

I Do Not Play Baseball With Rabbits (Bimble...), Sunday, 30 July 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

I'd be hard pressed to come up with a Doobie Brothers song that'd be less painful to hear than any tortune said sci fi army could bestow upon me, so I'd probably keep my cred and get zapped by the robot cowbuy, jem'hadar, klingon, xenomorphna and giant spider.

However, there are lots of good Eagles songs. People need to get over themselves about the Eagles already. "Peaceful Easy Feeling" would make us mellow and all stoney-eyed like douchebag Glenn Frey on the cover of that one Eagles record.

I DO hate Glenn Frey. Can't believe how much "The Heat Is On" rips off the melody for "Panama." Was motherfucker ever even SUED for that shit??

You Need A Heart To Live (Roger Fidelity), Sunday, 30 July 2006 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

Well I certainly wouldn't suggest any Michael McDonald era Doobies cause that'd just be asking for trouble.

Alien spaceships generally tend to be sleek-looking vessels, therefore yacht-like in character. So some MM-era Doobies might be to their liking. I'd go with "What a Fool Believes" because you need to pull out the big guns right away and it's not the time or place to play the "here's an overlooked gem that shoulda been a hit" card.

I'd make a thematic mixtape with "It Keeps You Runnin'" and then "Already Gone" on it, in that order. Hopefully you'd really be gone by the time they got it. At any rate, it'd be worth it, I think.

what a fool believes DUH!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Sunday, 30 July 2006 00:55 (nineteen years ago)

Eagles - "Ol' 55"

Doobs - "Another Park, Another Sunday"

And they'd be GRATEFUL.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Sunday, 30 July 2006 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

Why are we even recommending music to the aliens? They're the advanced civilization. I'd think you'd want to ask them what they've got that's any good. Most people will stop killing you for a while if you imply that you'd really be interested in flipping through their collection, esp. if they've got some rare vinyl to show off or something. I assume aliens are about the same.

slugbuggy (slugbuggy), Sunday, 30 July 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

> ... if you imply that you'd really be interested in flipping through their collection

I dunno about that. In Forbidden Planet, Leslie Nielsen takes time out to listen to a 500,000-year old recording of a Krell jam session, but the implacable Monster from the Id then tries to rip him a new one anyway.
