It's actually their best by a fair shot, more fun and less self-conscious than the rest of their output so far. Also, horns suit them better than strings.

I live near a kennel named Happy Hollows. Yep.

one year passes...

jeez these cursive threads get a lot of hits, don't they?

a really well-performed, entertaining record, this one. once again kasher is labouring the point a bit (this time about christianity), but that's always been his style and, let's face it, part of the band's winning formula.

this doesn't touch the majestic heights of 'the ugly organ' and is nowhere near as cohesive or uniform in mood and feel as that record. but it's still pretty great. 'big bang' is a hoot, and oh so catchy.

and it should be noted that 'happy hollow' has a much smaller dosage of those cursive tracks that absolutely floor you on the very first spin a la 'some red handed slight of hand', 'making friends and acquaintances', and 'burst of bloom'

but the songs are growers, and hook-loaded in subtle ways

'burst AND bloom', i meant. serves me right for posting at 3am

should add that tim kasher has a fantastic voice for this style of music.
