Also, does anyone have any thoughts on/ information concerning Nico-Teen? (Myspace.com/nicoteensillypoo). I can't stop listening to her track "I can't say goodbye"

Really, I just downloaded this Ak Duck compilation from their homepage, can anyone tell me anything more about them. This Gelbart song is incredible!

Here I was hoping hoping that someone had dug up some very early Christa Paffgen recordings.

No, Israeli version of Ariel Pink minus the acid-casualty schtick.

Since this thread is the most ignored place on the internet, maybe it would serve as a suitable receptacle for my innermost thoughts...

Dear Diary, how does can I get Jennifer Bilson's look at an affordable price?

Dear Diary, today I said I couldn't tell the difference between butter and I can't believe its not butter, all the other kids laughed at me. Why won't they like me?

Hahahah...well listen here, friend...and I mean this with all respect...

Nico was the be all end all. Any thread named this that isn't about the one and only Nico is hard to get to grips with. And I wouldn't be quite so passionate had I not just recently, finally managed to find a rare cassette release I'd been looking for for years by a post punk band called Gods Gift that turned out to have an entire song on it dedicated to her entitled "Nico". I was so happy.

I mean Nico from the Velvet Underground? Surely you know who I'm talking about. Tell me you know and maybe I'll give this Nico-Teen a listen.

bimble, have you heard Nico by texas punk band Really Red? Highly recommended.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 4 February 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

I fucking love Nico, just last week I couldn't stop listening to Frozen warning from Marble index. We mean the same Nico. I also love the covers album* she has, Chelsea Girl. My best friend played it on repeat constantly last summer. But this Nico Teen is great.

*Are they covers or were they written for her, I know she does These Days by Jackson Brown

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Sunday, 4 February 2007 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

Well...some are covers...some written for her but still "covers"...I'm not sure if there are songs she wrote herself on that...let me see...hmmm...no I guess not. Nice album, though. But things got better for her later, in my opinion.

Shout out to Dan! No I hadn't heard that song, thanks!! :) I've been really getting into the post punk thing this weekend, would love to compare notes on a more appropriate thread.

Oh, here is good for a quiet chat. I'll just tip-toe out.

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Sunday, 4 February 2007 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's okay, this thread is for Nico-Teen, we don't do things that way here! :)

Booper Soul (Bimble...), Sunday, 4 February 2007 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

Like that will ever happen. Thanks for the consideration though!

one last Nico proper post...

Chelsea Girl isn't a covers album, the songs were written for her, though I'm not sure about Dylan's I'll Keep it With Mine, maybe he just had the lying around? He does his own version which is found on Biograph, and the Fairport Convention do a beautiful version as well, with Sandy Denny singing I think. And much props to It Was A Pleasure Then...10 minutes of Lou playing guitar in one speaker, Cale playing viola in the other, and Nico singing in both. One of my favorite songs ever.

Really Red I don't think of as a post-punk band, they're definitely remembered as a proper punk band, but they do fit the more arty stripped down minimal side of punk, and I don't think it'd be out of line to use the post-punk tag. Not as arty at 100 Flowers/The Urinals, but along that line of smart american punk.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 4 February 2007 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

Really Red were awesome. There's an almost discography CD that's not too hard to find. Some of the missing songs are on KBD comps.

Best version of I'll Keep It With Mine (IMO) is the Bettie Serveert one on I Shot Andy Warhol soundtrack.

Never heard of Nico-Teen, sorry!
