Nico was the be all end all. Any thread named this that isn't about the one and only Nico is hard to get to grips with. And I wouldn't be quite so passionate had I not just recently, finally managed to find a rare cassette release I'd been looking for for years by a post punk band called Gods Gift that turned out to have an entire song on it dedicated to her entitled "Nico". I was so happy.
I mean Nico from the Velvet Underground? Surely you know who I'm talking about. Tell me you know and maybe I'll give this Nico-Teen a listen.

Shout out to Dan! No I hadn't heard that song, thanks!! :) I've been really getting into the post punk thing this weekend, would love to compare notes on a more appropriate thread.

Chelsea Girl isn't a covers album, the songs were written for her, though I'm not sure about Dylan's I'll Keep it With Mine, maybe he just had the lying around? He does his own version which is found on Biograph, and the Fairport Convention do a beautiful version as well, with Sandy Denny singing I think. And much props to It Was A Pleasure Then...10 minutes of Lou playing guitar in one speaker, Cale playing viola in the other, and Nico singing in both. One of my favorite songs ever.
Really Red I don't think of as a post-punk band, they're definitely remembered as a proper punk band, but they do fit the more arty stripped down minimal side of punk, and I don't think it'd be out of line to use the post-punk tag. Not as arty at 100 Flowers/The Urinals, but along that line of smart american punk.

Best version of I'll Keep It With Mine (IMO) is the Bettie Serveert one on I Shot Andy Warhol soundtrack.
Never heard of Nico-Teen, sorry!
