Excited for the album, or for Masta Killa's vegetarianism?

It's decent, but No Said Date is much better.

There's a strong possibility I feel this way because I had extremely low expectations for No Said Date, whereas the same can't be said for Made in Brooklyn.

Jeff Reguil0n (Talent Explosion), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

I somehow read this as Masta Ace - Made in Brooklyn. This isn't nearly so interesting.

100% CHAMPS with a Yes! Attitude. (Austin, Still), Monday, 31 July 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

None of the 3 tracks on the myspace are very good at all. I'm not sure he knows how to pick beats that suit his style.

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 31 July 2006 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

I loved No Said Date. The clips on hiphopsite for this one sound pretty good. I'm pretty excited for this.

Might I say, the cover of the new Inspektah Deck is awesome.

It's Rodney, assume the position! (R. J. Greene), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

This album is good, but I pretty much hate three of the tracks (8,9,13).

Harpal (harpal), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 03:55 (nineteen years ago)

that ad is too fucking funny...yo, eat yo mufuckin vegtubullz, sucka!

robert anderson (venimdenim), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

haha yes it's rapper so everything is automatically misspelled lolz!

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

No Said Date was like the ultimate great album by a mediocre rapper. I'd like him to repeat it but don't expect much.

ramon fernandez (ramon fernandez), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

the beats on this are nice, but i agree that most of them just dont match up with his delivery (great example: track 2)

someone like doom could've done alot more with these beats...

also, those kids at the beginning of the album are kinda tight...if i was masta killa, i prolly wouldn't be giving ten year olds the opportunity to out-shine me lyrically on the very first track (which they pretty much do!)

matos: it's funny that you called out me out on misspelling words, and you left out an "a" between "it's" and "rapper." i bet you wished you could've erased that as soon as you submitted it! check your own damn grammar next time, bitch.

robert anderson (venimdenim), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

people calling out on gramer lolz

It's Rodney, assume the position! (R. J. Greene), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

It is kinda funny though - his name is MASTA KILLA and he's veg.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

haha yes it's rapper so everything is automatically misspelled lolz!

in fairness matos the mc in question calls himself "Masta Killa," though your point is both good & on-target

the album is good though as people are all saying it's no "No Said Date" - Ghostface gets off a fucking incredible verse on "It's What It Is"

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

It is kinda funny though - his name is MASTA KILLA and he's veg.

I wonder what he really could do, though - surely with his wall of solid gold records and so on it would really throw off his brand to change his name now to MASTA FARMA or whatever. Although I'm all for artists transforming their musical identities to embrace new politics!

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 06:09 (nineteen years ago)

OK, so that was probably kind of obscure. Let's see how many posts I have calling me a racist by morning!

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 06:17 (nineteen years ago)

masta farma lol

so is the album up to Wu standards? Should i (g)listen?

rizzx (Rizz), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

My very fave is "Pass the Bone Remix" so I'd try that first. GREAT Al Green loop, good guest appearances, nice all around.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

I think what this is missing is a couple of left-field tracks like "Digi Warfare" and "Old Man". I have to say though, Masta Killa is the only person I've ever heard who can describe a woman and make me WANT her.

GZA ain't got skills. He says so himself.

What a great interview! GZA OTM about 95% of the time it seems. Thanks for the link, seriously.

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

yeah good stuff, thx for the link

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 August 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

GZA comes off as damned articulate in that piece. I wish Ghost was that lucid in his interviews.

Lolz at whitey calling smart black people "articulate".

Much better. Thank you.

The future of Rodney got a -- (R. J. Greene), Saturday, 12 August 2006 03:56 (nineteen years ago)

More seriously, I always figured he read a lot of crime fiction - probably Donaldson and Ellroy particularly - as an influence on his storytelling style. I'm on page 3 and see no hint of that.

100% CHAMPS with a Yes! Attitude. (Austin, Still), Saturday, 12 August 2006 04:00 (nineteen years ago)

In the interview, GZA seems very self-conscious of the sources of his style. He can trace his rhymes back to very specific circumstances. This is in contrast to interviews I've read with Ghost where, when pressed about the sources for ideas in Supreme Clientele, he responds that he was "just trying to come up with some real fly shit."

I prefer Ghost as a lyricist. I wish that he was this revealing and lucid in his interviews, because I like having insight into the artist and his creative process.

The fact that I am not white has no bearing on this discussion.

ILM in race-baiting shockah. Whatever.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Saturday, 12 August 2006 04:40 (nineteen years ago)

My mistake, non-whitey. I hope you can forgive me. (And I agree with your point, its just that the whole "Colin Powell is sooo articulate" thing really gets me going.)

The future of Rodney got a -- (R. J. Greene), Saturday, 12 August 2006 04:49 (nineteen years ago)

You don't have to be WHITE to be WHITEY don't you SEE MAAAN?

I think it's reasonable to observe that GZA is considerably more lucid, self-aware, and yes, articulate in this interview than most musicians in general, hip-hop/rock, black/white, whatever. He's not defensive or evasive, and has clearly put a lot of thought into what he's trying to accomplish as a lyricist, and how best to do that. It's a great interview.

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Saturday, 12 August 2006 04:52 (nineteen years ago)

so along w/ Masta Killa, there's a new Deck album (or mixtape, whatever it is) and new Method Man on the way. i wonder how all these will pan out.

=[[ (eman), Saturday, 12 August 2006 05:34 (nineteen years ago)

i like this album, i think Masta Killa has some of the most profound delivery styles on albums like Wu Tang Forever.

Eh, this has it's moments, but it isn't a patch on his first album. It is waaaaaaayyyy inconsistent.

That was a great GZA interview upthread.

Don't really see the funny in someone called Masta Killa being vegetarian. I've heard that rappers sometimes use metaphor and don't always mean things literally.
