Terrible. Really really terrible. It has real percussion! And guitars!

It's all wrong. What you want from the Pet Shop Boys is Neil Tennant with curly hair, in a suit and tie and long coat with a scarf and Chris Lowe wearing a black leather jacket and a BOY cap playing keyboards with one finger. That's what you want. None of this silly percussion nonsense.

I thought it was pretty pathetic the first couple of listens, the chorus especially, but I've heard it on the radio about 50 times and started enjoying it (!). They're very consciously spurning the normal epic widescreen thing, but it's in no way "rock"- all that happens in that department is Johnny Marr phoning in the most insipid guitar solo ever at the end. Guitarist in a coma, I know it's serious...

"corpulating" = becoming fat from sex?

I've got the full album, 'Just Printed'... it's hideous. Very adult pop. "Send me an email that says I love you..."

Ew.

one year passes...
Was there ever a thread about "Release"? What do people think of it?

I'm one of the VERY VERY few people that thinks it's a great GREAT album. "I Get Along" should have been the first single. One of the best songs they've ever done, despite the fact that it's a complete and total ripoff of "Something 4 the Weekend" by the Super Furry Animals.

only heard it once or twice but thought it was quite good

thirteen years pass...

This looks to be the closest thing to a dedicated Release thread. So possibly the best place say...it actually sounds surprisingly good at the moment! Still not the most exciting arrangements ever, but I've had to "hear through the arrangements" a whole bunch of times throughout their career anyway. "You Choose" is especially strong, I think.

So yeah, "what do people think of it (now)?"

I liked it then. I probably still like it now, haven't listened in a long time.

It's one of my least favourite PSB albums, though I still love 'Home and Dry' and 'I Get Along' ...
