apologies for the lack of originality, but this is the flip side of 25 acts whose best album is a live one.

1. sleepytime gorilla museum (terrible, terrible, terrible)
2. faith no more
3. melt banana (live in the studio, but still counts)
4. dead kennedys

6. Bob Dylan
6. The Grateful Dead
Same album.

by the same token:

9. Melvins

5. the beach boys

What live album are you talking about? And is it really worse than "The MIU Album" or "16 Big Ones" (to name but two)?

Oh No It's Dadaismus! (Dada), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

ahahha mark grout.

i'm leaning towards the smiths

wilco too if it wasn't for 'a.m'

maybe built to spill.

there have to be plenty. i don't usually like live records.

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

dada, i mean the first live album "the beach boys concert" in which the sound of a thousand screeching bats drowns out tinny versions of the monster mash etc. at least 15 big ones has "had to phone ya" on it.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

hahah

surely bjork also. take your pick from one of the three.

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

and i'm not counting her record from 1977. because that one doesn't count

hank (hank s), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

I remain unconvinced that that is Elvis' worst album

Oh No It's Dadaismus! (Dada), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

6. Bob Dylan
6. The Grateful Dead
Same album.

That would probably be true, if only Bob had never stepped foot inside the Budokan.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

ahahhaha

budokan tops even 'hard rain' in the abysmal stakes

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

The Beatles. Also, Marcello OTM for once.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

10. Graham Parker

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

11. Songs Of Faith And Devotion Live - Depeche Mode

May not be the worst, but certainly the most pointless.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

Also
12. The Two Ring Circus - Erasure

(for the same reason)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

could actually also be the worst dm, geir in any case

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Stooges - Metallic KO

Just 'cause it pales in comparison to the first 3.

Lauryn Hill!

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

Nirvana - From the Muddy Banks of Wishkah
Bonnie Prince Billy - Summer in the Southeast (arguable considering his other duds)
Sting's Bring on the Night is one of the vilest jazz-pop albums ever recorded but who knows if it's his worst.

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

nirvana yes, check.
and i'll grant the bonnie prince billy as well.

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

17. Led Zeppelin

I would presume that practically ANY live hip-hop or teen-pop album would be pretty much useless. (Not that I've ever heard any in their entirety, y'understand...)

M. Agony Von Bontee (M. Agony Von Bontee), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

18. The Doors

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

19. Spacemen 3

Sith Vidious (nest), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

Queen (though Live Killers might not actually be as bad as some of those 80s records)

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Y'know that Doors live album from the 60s is pretty damn good. But I agree that it's their worst - not counting the two post-Morrison releases.

jim wentworth (wench), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

Queen Live Killers is great!

Rezillos live album is the worst.

everything (everything), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Joy Division - Still

eyesteel (eyesteel), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

Wu-Tang Clan - Disciples of the 36th Chamber: Chapter 1
Horrible and horribly recorded. But is it worse that Forever or The W or Iron Flag? Too close to call. I have to be ten minutes away from passing out drunk to enjoy this one at all, which amounts to four tracks because they never do a full song. Mostly it's just overrated: "Everyone's there! ODB's in the HIZOUSE!" Big deal, so what.

Second the Wishkah

earinfections (Nick Twisp), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

could actually also be the worst dm, geir in any case

It is. Particularly since the studio album it ripped off was their worst studio album. :)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

2 LIVE CREW
Jimi Hendrix (Band of Gypsies)
Happy Mondays

17. Led Zeppelin

OTMFM. God they sucked live.

derrick (derrick), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

"OTMFM. God they sucked live."

Actually, they didn't always suck live. "How The West Was Won" totally rules.

Fuck. Anyway, Grohl better than Chad or whoever.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 03:49 (nineteen years ago)

Wishkah >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Unplugged

dave q (listerine), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

"Unplugged" is a live album, right?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, Ooh, I know:

The Clash!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Worse than "Cut the Crap"?

Oh No It's Dadaismus! (Dada), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Ha, I was waiting for that.

Yeah, I would actually rather play CTC than the worthy but dull Clash live compilation.

I have a number of fine Clash live albums, all d/l from the "Clash Archive" before it closed for obvious reasons. Any of which would have been a better idea.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

pink floyd's 'delicate sound of thunder' would make the list. but it's probably better sounding and worthwhile than 'a momentary lapse of reason'

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'll second Dead Kennedys; While Live at the Deaf Club was great, their other live release, Mutiny on the Bay, is far too inconsistent.
