Was "Sparkle in the Rain" the rubbish album with the version of "Street Hassle" on it?

Half-rubbish but yes.

Sonic Temple wins, obv.

the joshua tree is overplayed, to be sure, but if you can at all try to listen to it with fresh ears it's still pretty awesome.

"Sparkle in the Rain" was when the neds (sorry Ned) in Glasgow started really getting into 'The Minds', thus ruining them for the cool kids

... tho conveniently they started to get shit around this time anyway

One of Simple Minds worst albums vs. an album generally considered U2's best (which it isn't btw). "The Joshua Tree" wings, but wouldn't have been anywhere near competing with "New Gold Dream".

geir in classic anti-lilywhite (the producer, not the world view) mode.

the opening monster THWACK on "up on the catwalk" >>>>>>>the entire u2 discography (haha, not really, but not far off either).

this comes up on every simple minds thread, but i'll say it again, the seeds of future suckassness were sown on Sparkle, but there's still a lot of good stuff on it.

mekons put it best when they sang re bono "the dublin messiah, scattering crumbs"

Some of the songs seem quite OK, and they probably would have been great if they had sounded like the ones on "New Gold Dream".

Nevertheless "Real Life" > "Once Upon a Time" > "Sparkle In The Rain"
