The A-Band

I'm curious as to how many ILM-ers know The A-Band. The group Neil Campbell, Matthew Bower and Richard Youngs, among maaaany others, were a part of.

I'm listening to Anusol, the cassette release on Chocolate Monk (each released with a special object, ie a used condon wrapped in tissue...uh yeah) and it's like proto-New Weird everything. Great saxplaying as well

anyone?

I own the Live @ 7th Annual Neil Young Convention '94 cassette on Union Pole. I think I even listened to it once.

There was an older A Band, a post-no wave/new wave NYC band featuring Wharton Tiers. Their song "No Love" is great and is on Homework volume 6.

Yeah I picked up this LP last year on QBICO, a reissue from about '95/'96 that showcased their chuck-everything-at-the-walls-see-what-sticks approach - it worked very well as in they managed to, at the very least, create the illusion that everyone into rigidly focused playing.

Very basically I'd say it falls in between Sun City Girls and No-Neck blues band.

One of the ppl who played on the A-Band posted on ilm over at the 'richard youngs ,what's his best stuff? thread

xp

Makes sense, Sun City Girls would be their most logical American brothers maybe. Although this Anusol cassette is a lot more jazz orientated. about to listen to the qbico release

I've got a tape laying around somewhere. I remember it really catching me off guard when it came out around '92 or so. I should re-listen again, I have a feeling I'd like it even more now.

I havae a split 7" with Wickham-Smith and Youngs, also as I recall they play with that duo on the Durian Durian LP that Forced Exposure put out in like 1990. Neither of those releases really stuck with me very much.
