Anyone heard the Jean-Benoit Dunckel solo album? Thorts?

I was surprised to find they'd put together a Late Night Tales comp. The tracklisting, for the curious, is:

1. The Cure – All Cats Are Grey
2. Black Sabbath - Planet Caravan
3. Nino Rota - O’ Venezia Venaga Venusia
4. The Band – I Shall Be Released
5. Georges Delerue Theme De Camille
6. Japan - Ghosts
7. Scott Walker – The Old Man’s Back Again
8. Jeff Alexander – Come Wander With Me
9. Cat Power – Metal Heart
10. Minnie Riperton – Loving You
11. Tan Dun – For The World
12. Sebastien Tellier – Le Long de la Riviere Tendre
13. Lee Hazelwood – My Autumn’s Done Come
14. Robert Wyatt – P.L.A.
15. Elliot Smith – Let’s Get Lost
16. The Troggs – Cousin Jane
17. Air/Alessandro Baricco - Musica
18. The Cleveland Orchestra – Ravel, Pavane Pour Une Enfante Défunte

Perhaps they were on a Cure kick - "All Cats Are Grey" is on the Marie Antoinette soundtrack too.

I know their new album is approaching completion, so this may count as a vague anticipation thread. I liked Talkie Walkie a lot, anyway.

damn them for putting "loving you" smack dab in the middle of an otherwise fine mix.

i don't like the darkel (j.b. dunckel solo) album too much. it's the sort of thing that seems alright while you're listening to it, but try remembering the songs once it's over.

That's one dark night of the soul...

damn that mix looks like i made it. awesome.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 22 September 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeh, i know what you mean. i've only heard a handful of tunes on there but it makes me think i'd be bored of it very quickly as it's catering too closely to my tastes - does that make sense?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Friday, 22 September 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

That and wondering why you shelled out for something you could have made yourself.

LC (Damian), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

yeh, that's what i mean i guess. can't fault it, just don't want it. as is often the case with these kind fo mixes.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

Never trust an artist who puts his own tracks on a compilation.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

well, you can fault it for being pretty bloody obvious.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, no David Shrigley track on this one?

this tracklist is no worse/more obvious than any other Late Night Tales or Back To Mine.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

Plus it's not like they picked a track off Moon Safari. Then again, the people likely to buy this probably already own City Reading.

LC (Damian), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

I don't own any of these songs. Might have an mp3 of 'Planet Caravan'.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

They shoulda just released their 4 hour Radio 1 Essential Mix from a few years back on CD. Top marks for including that Lee Hazlewood track though.

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I certainly give them mad props for including something from Fellini Casanova !

Jay Vee's Return (Manon_69), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

They've done the mix thing before : see Deck Safari, one and two.

Anyone heard the Jean-Benoit Dunckel solo album?

wow 'Be My Friend' is excellent, would've preferred the last Air album to sound more like this

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Sunday, 5 October 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

i wish they'd go back to being all sickly and weird like on 10000hz

dog latin, Monday, 6 October 2008 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

the Dunckel track above does sound like that

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Monday, 6 October 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

ah good, i'll check it out. i did used to love throwing up to "sex born poison" back in 2002.

dog latin, Monday, 6 October 2008 14:49 (seventeen years ago)

i always thought that was called 'sex born prison'

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Monday, 6 October 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

dog latin, Monday, 6 October 2008 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

Results 1 - 10 of about 114 for "sex born prison". (0.23 seconds)

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Monday, 6 October 2008 14:59 (seventeen years ago)

ummm... weird... i actually was sure you were right.

dog latin, Monday, 6 October 2008 15:02 (seventeen years ago)

LOVED that Late Night Tales mix.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 6 October 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

nine months pass...

Don't know if there's a thread for the new album -"Love 2" - yet but - yeah - the first single sounds like a "10,000 Hz Legend" outtake. To me that's a very good thing.

Marcus Brody Ta-Dow! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

"Do The Joy" = A+

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 9 July 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

It's a very nice surprise. The last records were pretty good, but this is lot more exciting.
