Peter Gabriel's "Exposure" vs. Robert Fripp's "Exposure

Fripp and Gabriel co-wrote a song called "Exposure" in the late '70s. Fripp was producing Gabriel's second self-titled solo album; the song features some classic Frippertronics, as well as a killer bassline and Gabriel's languid shrieking.

A different version of the song -- which essentially is a just a different the same track, and with a female shrieker -- showed up on Fripp's solo album from around the same time, called (what else?) "Exposure".

Which do you prefer?

Fripp all the way due to the Roche sister's scalding vocal performance.

Fripp

Fripp.
That whole record kicks ass.

Also, the version of "Here Comes the Flood" on Fripp's Exposure is way better than Gabriel's solo album version.

I think I prefer the version on Fripp's album too. More "progressive" in a way.

Fripp ... this has made me remember what a great album Exposure is.

Exposure was one part of a Fripp trilogy which also encompassed Peter Gabriel II and Daryl Hall's Sacred Songs.

They work brilliantly together but Exposure works best as an individual album; one of the very few records I can think of which took up the Escalator Over The Hill ball and ran with it.

But "Here Comes The Flood" is on "Peter Gabriel", not the second album.

I'm not going to argue with you. Read your sleevenotes.

If only there had been an Escalator Over the Hill Ball

How different is the Fripp-helmed "Here Comes the Flood?" from the original? These days when I want to listen to the song I play the pretty solo piano version on that Gabriel comp.

it's kind of like that version but recorded much earlier (I think that version is from the early 90's or late 80's) and has frippertronics all over it

And it has a soaring PETER GABRIEL vocal on the chorus instead of the downbeat/"Don't Give Up" one on that comp. The Fripp version is about a million times better.

word.

Plus it has the neat (well, I think so, anyway) J.G. Bennett sample intro.

Fripp version for me
