I was reading a book called 'THe Role Of Rock' by Don J. Hibbard the other day and he charted the historical framework of Rock, like this:

1955-1959 inception
1960-1965 formation
1966-1969 maturity
1970-present stylization

I thought it was an interesting view of Rock--I havent decided if I agree with it or not, but its something worth thinking about...

I was reading a book called 'THe Role Of Rock' by Don J. Hibbard the other day and he charted the historical framework of Rock, like this:

1955-1959 inception"

Just about every rock history I've ever read says the same thing - it's not just Hibbard - so I never questioned it, since that year gave us both "Maybelline" and "Rock Around The Clock." The R&B of 1948-54 is basically a prehistory.
