Only if you like pretentious prog-funk spoken word stuff. WHICH I DO.

I really liked his first record when it came out, then tired of it and sold it. Then I missed it so I bought it back. I love Good Bread Alley, which came out this year, and gave it a good review on PopMatters. But you have to have some serious tolerance for his tics (repeating stuff over and over like a slam poet, overheated imagery) and his taste in music, which is about half Funkadelic and half I don't know what, definitely weird though, tracks in 7/4 and indie-percussion freakouts and stuff. Still, I think he's as deep as his voice.

I've only heard "Thadius Star". Is that representative?

At this point I'm not sure if there really IS a "representative" sound to his work. It's certainly the most early-Funkadelic thing on the new record, which also has him ranting over avant-blues and doing psychedelic folksongs and covering Bill Withers' anti-war song "I Can't Write Left-Handed."

Oddly enough, every time I put on one of his records I think "fucking hell! this is brilliant! why didn't I realize that before?" and then 3 or 4 songs later I think "is this still on? how long IS this record?" and eventually I have to get up and take it off.
