someone has made off with all of your records except this one, and the groove is running out on the record that's playing... which of these mixes do you play?

um, of what?

i'm gonna take a crazy stab and say ten city

My Spidey-sense says go for the Underground Mix, even the only Google return for both mixes yields Moby.

good god, the ambiguosness of this thread does equate 1989 dance music, so as confusing as it is, as as impossible as it is to answer, OTM

PappaWheelie has no answers to any question that requires actual thought (PappaW, Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

jess the name is scratched out, and all you can read is "deep house extended mix" and "underground mix"

but yes you're right you fuc. based on that record, i would choose "deep house extended mix" every time. despite/because of the fact that it sounds nothing like deep house.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 22:55 (nineteen years ago)

i say deep house. but mostly because i'd know what to expect there.

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i don't want to go out on a jungle tune.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

no danger if it's from 1989 jed!

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

just testing!

In 1989, the "deep house extended mix" would be the one they hadn't buggered about with too much, and the "underground mix" would be the one they had buggered about with a lot. As it was all about the songs back then, I'd go with the deep house extended mix.

i would play the one that says "jeep beats mix"

HUNTA-V (vahid), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

but yeah, the "underground mix" is probably some hi-nrg crap they play at the tunnel

HUNTA-V (vahid), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:17 (nineteen years ago)

'The Sun Rising'

this thread reminds me of one time my girlfriend was throwing a party and she made me turn off the glimmer twins mix that was playing. she said the seamless mixing and steady beat was really bothering her. then she made us listen to the entirety of this.

"That's The Way Love Is" by Ten City (1989) came in "Deep House Extended" and "Underground" flavours...

Damn, I'd love to hear that William Orbit mix of "Erotica". Anyone have it?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

haha mike i know!! it was exactly the record that prompted this question and jess nailed it in one. those appellations are just so vague given that they don't refer to anything we would recognize by them today, yet they, and others of their type ("main floor mix" "techno mix" etc.. "halfway to house mix" anyone???) were so ubiquitous i figgered it would be fun to do a little semantic archaeology with it

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

haha i win the internet

boo berry (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

moral of the story = "underground" anything usually sucks

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 28 September 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

underground=poor

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 28 September 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

deep house kinda sucks too

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

i kid cos i love

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

but "deep house mix"es in 1989 were apparently the BOMB!!
