MIA is set to return with a new single to be called 'Bird Flu'.

The singer has been recording in Trinidad and India for the past six months, and, despite the rumours she would be recording with Timbaland, she confirmed that she is set to produce the follow-up to 2005's 'Arular' herself.

"This beat is going to kill everyone," she said on her Myspace blog of the new single, adding that the video for which was shot "out there in a fishing village in south coast of India".

"The village was hit by a tsunami, but they still were in good shape," she added. "We practically moved there and had the craziest time going out fishing everyday. I always used to say that one day I'm going to run away and marry a fisherman and live happily ever after and I thought, damn, I was close to seeing the reality of my plan B."

She added that the local population had influenced the clip.

"We discovered an amazing boy who can outdance anything I've ever seen," MIA explained. "He invented me the bird flu dance."

A release date has yet to be confirmed.

what's the chances someone overheard her saying she'd be recording in trinidad and went, "WOAH, she's recording with timbaland???"

H2-H4 (H2-H4), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:14 (nineteen years ago)

i luv her but bird flu is a bad title

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

Naming a dance song "Bird Flu" is wrong on a few levels. If something does happen it will seem to be in worst taste than it originally was and if nothing happens regarding the bird flu it will date the song incredibly. What was the thinking behind it? "Bird flew might soon be sweeping the nation...like my next single! Oh, aren't I clever!"

Cunga (Cunga), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:17 (nineteen years ago)

it makes me think of her obviousness on the 'i got grapes' remix:

i keep my shit hidden like bin laden
x12

not insightful, just referential, but not in a way that means anything.

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 28 September 2006 06:21 (nineteen years ago)

get 1x Dizzee remix

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

she mentioned the timbo hook-up herself during visagate.

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

Why would D. Rascal want to waste his talents on a no-hit wonder?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

why would mia want to waste her, etc.

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

rtccc (mwah), Thursday, 28 September 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'd like to hear Dizzee doing an Art Garfunkel remix, certainly.

big deal, far better rappers have tossed out 'i'm like' lines worse than that

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

Perhaps she'll blow herself up on a packed rush hour tube train to prove she means what she says.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

Well I'm looking forward to it. The lyrics aren't great on Arular either, but the music is constantly inventive and funky, and I like her crude barking delivery.

chap who would dare to contain two ingredients. Tea and bags. (chap), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

the bug should work with MIA.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

You sure you're not mixing up M.I.A. with pub rottweilers?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

M.I.A. conspicuously absent on The Bug's latest project - http://myspace.com/ladybuglondon

Deize Tigrona not absent however. (Deize's single Injecao was the basis (at first uncredited, and now fully credited) for MIA's "Bucky Done Gone)

not that they haven't made up now http://www5.flickr.com/photos/moreno/55966172/ but still...

I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to this or not. I hope she's learnt to deliver her stuff better, not exactly dialling back the schtick though is she?

See, she's a survivor, and she understand other survivors.
