Diapers spilling over with ass butter and wailing from an 8 week-old keeps up till the wee hours. On occassion I try to lull myself back to Stage IV with the headphones. Last night it was Smegma's 'Glamour Girl 1941', and I have not been back to sleep since.

Eeriest songs to hear at that hour are Isaac Hayes's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and Timmy Thomas's "Why Can't We Live Together."

I think Metal Machine Music is rather tranquil at low volumes.

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Sunday, 1 October 2006 06:33 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I think I've fallen sleep to MMM before.

I actually listen to Hysteria a lot in the wee morning hours, but it's easy for me to fall asleep to because I know it frontwards and backwards.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 2 October 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

Side 2 of Black Flag's 'My War' is not a lullaby.
I would guess that any of Daniel Johnston's live releases could be harrowing and unhelpful at 4am - unless of course you've been on a bender and feel cruel.

I wouldn't even want to hear "Pour Some Sugar On Me" at 4 PM, much less the darkest of night.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 2 October 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

I've been known to fall asleep to Metallica for exactly the same reason.

"Songs of Leonard Cohen"

Most of the erm, "studio" stuff is good for falling asleep to though! I just listened to Continued Story/Hi How Are You the other early morning. I wouldn't recommend 1990 though, "SATAN! SATAN! SATAN!" etc.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 05:32 (nineteen years ago)

Anything that's too shouty. Sex Pistols et al.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

Amen on Daniel Johnston - the early cassette releases especially. I used to play entire sides of Yip/Jump Music on the radio late at night, and it actually scared me.
