soundgarden's badmotorfinger

mudhoney...

screaming trees' sweet oblivion and dust.

if you want to count mother love bone, the tracks 'chloe dancer', 'bone china' and 'stargazer' spring to mind

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 October 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

It seems implicit that we can't say the Meat Puppets and the Pixies, but why can we not?

Adam S S (Zephery), Sunday, 1 October 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

pov grunge covers:
green river--queen bitch

Godfrzej Ljang (godfrzej), Sunday, 1 October 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 October 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

I am teh jealous. :-/ And I have a two disc Mother Love Bone/Malfunkshun bootleg too!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 October 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

"Santa Monica", "Brother Brick", "Gel", Olivelawn's "Hate" all excellent suggestions that I never considered to be "grunge" ('til now, maybe.)

Mudhoney, "Burn It Clean"
Neil Young, "Cinnamon Girl"
Honeymoon Killers, "The Sexorcist"
Fluid, "Out Love Will Still Be There"
The Sonics, "Psycho"

Monty Von Byonga (Monty Von Byonga), Monday, 2 October 2006 06:34 (nineteen years ago)

I am having a hard time picking five although "Would?" and "Black Hole Sun" were great songs at least. "Glycerine" by Bush wasn't too bad either (except the entire idea of a grunge act from the UK was wrong, wrong, wrong and nothing but wrong)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 2 October 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

We (the UK) also had Headswim, but I don't think they made a splash internationally (or a particularly big one domestically, for that matter).

chap who would dare to contain two ingredients. Tea and bags. (chap), Monday, 2 October 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

"Nothing to Say" by Soundgarden
"Touch Me I'm Sick" by Mudhoney
"Foot" by Love Battery
"Bar X the Rocking M" by the Melvins
"Jinx" by Tad

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 2 October 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 October 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

might as well wipe the dust off 'motel california' to see how its aged

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Monday, 2 October 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

As crazy as it may seem, I think I must have ukj's album (have they made more than 1 ?) somewhere...
aaah the tasteful cover...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

-- Charlie Howard (charlieflie...), September 30th, 2006.

i only like a couple songs from the 'tripod album', but that nasty guitar riff on 'god am' always gets me. its been a while since i heard it, so who knows if it still holds up. 'them bones' or 'sickman' would work too

6335 (6335), Monday, 2 October 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

i also hold a special place in my heart for 'say hello 2 heaven' by temple of the dog. corny as it may be

6335 (6335), Monday, 2 October 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

I remember Tripod being pretty shitty; the only song I can recall being at all good is 'Heaven Beside You'.

chap who would dare to contain two ingredients. Tea and bags. (chap), Monday, 2 October 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

i have this.
http://www.endino.com/skinyard/skinpics/deepsix2.jpg
its garbage.

this
http://www.dementlieu.com/~obik/bigblack/discog/images/va_wailing01.jpg
and some of the amrep comps are cool. thats all grunge right? i think i like grunge from the midwest better than grunge from the pacific northwest.

playing real fast and lose (or conflating grunge with 120 minutes:

"gimmie indie rock" sebadoh
"headburn" halo of flies
"jeremy" pearl jam (its funny i think)
"cannonball" Breeders (i thought it was way more grunge than 4 non blondes at the time so it counts)
"Dyslexic Heart" Paul Westerberg (this was in singles wasn't it? if so it counts.)

am wondering about where grunge ends and indie/alterna rock begins cuz i love me some "vaseline", "loser", "summer babe" etc. i mean they all sound kinda scuzzy (maybe more 'cheap than scuzzy?) and wouldn't have been hits (er or 'hits') if it weren't for nirvana.

c.t.mummey (consigliere), Monday, 2 October 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Toadies "Possum Kingdom" or "I Come from the Water" or even "Tyler"
Silverchair "Tomorrow"
Dinosaur Jr. "Tarpit"
Salt "Bluster"
Kyuss "One Inch Man" (or is "Green Machine" grungier?)
Butthole Surfers "Twenty Two Going on Twenty Three" (exploring the fuckedup outer limits of grunge)
L7 "Pretend We're Dead"
Meat Puppets "Backwater"
Babes in Toyland "Bruise Violet"
and of course, Hole "Gold Dust Woman"

...and why not, you put N. Young in there...
The Stooges "Little Doll"

Destroy A. Monsters (Destroy A. Monsters), Monday, 2 October 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

6335, i guess the novelty factor of layne simultaneously speaking and exhaling bong smoke spoilt the song for me. time to give 'god am' another chance, i suppose!

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

Side one of this:
