Can I be first to say that they should have used Hank Williams "Lost Highway" as the theme for the movie?

I'm surprised Scott Walker and David Lynch have never collaborated on anything. This track would definitely work in one of his films....

twelve years pass...

There really is a vibe about certain songs in that Roy Orbison/Patsy Cline/Bobby Vinton 1958-1963 zone that have been long since mediated through Lynch films and prestige TV and side 4 of the American Graffiti soundtrack that I wish some enterprising Simon Reynolds type would pinpoint as a ~vibe~. I was in a coffee shop in Big Bear and they were playing like Skeeter Davis' "End of the World" and whatever and the best my mind could muster was like "Lana Del Ray-core"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 21 February 2023 17:46 (three years ago)

Like it's a circle big enough for R&B and country and teen pop and lounge pop and I would even include the Flamingos... I dunno like "uncanny A.M. radio" or something?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 21 February 2023 17:48 (three years ago)

I was going to suggest a good and pertinent thread to you but then realized that you started the thread in question, lol: late 80s early 90s lana del reyish lynchcore tumblrwave songs (warning: millennial content)
