I understand but I am still a fan

I am a massive fan of Hanson, and I could sit here and tell you 10 thousand reasons as to why I like them but I won't.

I have met many a Hanson fan and me and my 'Hanson Nut' friend over heard a non hanson fan putting them down and a random Hanson lover shouted
"Well you should hear their newer stuff....it's so different to Mmmbop"

Then my 'Hanson Nut' friend snapped back with "Whats wrong with Mmmbop!"

The point of my story is that As much as I love Hanson to death, Mmmbop is exactly what these non Hanson fans say it is. They say it's cheesy, poppy, happy, catchy and over all they class it as a 'Cheesy pop song'

Are the rest of you Hanson fans actually gonna tell me it's anything different then a cheesy pop song?

I remeber watching on television a program called 'Top 100 worst songs' and Hanson was in the running with Mmmbop. Now I don't feel that they deserved to be there but these two comdians were commenting saying "you can't understand a word thats being said in the verses and then suddenly you hear Mmmbop ba ba ba da da da Mmmbop......etc...etc...."

You have to admit they have a point.

Anyways in conclusion to my post,As much as I love Hanson I also understand people's 'Oh my life not Hanson!' comments, as first impressions are everything and if Mmmbop is peoples first impression for Hanson then no wonder people make the comments that they make about them.

I think you would be mistaken to put much trust in the fed opinions of the tenth-rate, bailiff-dodging youth TV presenters and "comedians" who tend to populate such surveys.

i doubt Hanson have a song better than 'Mmmbop'

Hey Katie, we do things kind of funny around here at I Love Music these days. Probably the best way to get your question answered is to phrase it in a very stupid way. Think lists, think those British magazines you like to read that have lists/articles, containing lists like "25 Most Classic Stones songs ever since Brian Jones died." OK? That's how we roll here. Suggestions:

* What are the three most overrated songs on the worst Hanson album?
* Name the 13 best Hanson songs that are NOT suitable for Prom, Homecoming, etc.
* POST ALBUM COVERS FROM THE YEAR YOU WERE BORN!!!!
* What are the top 4 best Hanson songs released the year you died?
and finally:

* Pick three albums that sound great on shuffle.

Good Luck!

Katie Marie Hay, please pay no attention to Mr. Que. (hey that rhymes!)

I think I know what you're talking about with Hanson. But, I think I would say that cheesy poppy songs can be great, and who cares if that's what it is.

I happened to hear this 90's era Grateful Dead show where they were doing Not Fade Away at the end and the band would chant "mmm bop. bop. bop bop!" at the end to which the audience responded "You know our love will not fade away!" and it went on like that for a long time, which led me to think that that must've been a typical thing for the dead to do in the 90s and maybe the Hanson boys were inspired to write mmm bop by their parents taking them to see the dead at a very young age. So I ask you Hanson fans, is this connection possible? The Hanson parents were hippies right?

BrianB (BrianB), Thursday, 12 October 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

I think the connection is entirely possible. But please, for the love of all that is holy, do not encourage Katie Marie Hay down that road.

Ouch. (Author of said post)

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Thursday, 12 October 2006 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think Hanson gets enough credit...they wrote their own songs and played their own instruments. I literally wore out my cassette of "Middle Of Nowhere" by playing it too much. And Mmm Bop was definitely not the only great song on the album.

Please don't give any credence to what comedians say on those types of shows...those comedians just read a script of potential bitchy sound bites that can be used in commercials that some producer scribbled after hearing the song for the first time.

PS: did I ever mention that I invented doing the Macarena to the chorus of Mmm Bop when I was in 5th grade? It totally works.

seven months pass...
hanson might have written and performed their own songs.

but good songs they were not.

also, the oldest brother resembled, and probably still resembles, a horse.

the seven year old wasn't a winner on the snares and cymbals

Charlie Howard, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

I like Hanson and think their breakthrough record contained really good songs. However, I don't ever wish to listen to these songs, and I prefer to stay as far away from them as possible, because they make me feel uncomfortable and awkward.
