How come no Emo band has covered 'Zombie'?

Cuz that song begs for that treatment or even a little jock-rap cameo.

go for it.

Because all emo bands had broken up long before it was ever recorded.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

The Cranberries, right?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

Worst song ever written, right?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

Because no emo band would do a song with a one-word title.

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe an emo band should cover "Zombie" by Drunks With Guns instead.

I thought this thread was "How come no Emo band has covered The Zombies? Cursive could do a pretty killer version of "She's Not There"...

Just seeing that word brings the chorus of the song rampaging through my mind. Thanks a lot.

with yer guns...and yer bombs...

Dude, the guitar parts on "Zombie" would be way too slow and ponderous for most pop-emo bands now. I mean, they're super-trudgy. You could play it in double time and spruce up the rhythm a bit, but if you did that there wouldn't be so much left to recommend the song -- the trudginess was one of the bigger things it had going for it.

Do emo bands do cover songs? The last big rock movement that did cover songs was the goth thing.

Ha ha, god yes. I saw them preview that album while supporting REM when I was 14 and it struck me as quite possibly the worst thing I'd ever heard. The word crass doesn't do justice to quite how misguidedly atrocious that song is.
I think this is as good an excuse as any to post the link to ET and Taylor Parkes's immortal demolition of To The Faithful Departed.
Come on now, admit it - who here likes/has liked the Cranberries?
(It's down a bit - nov 10 2003)

Thank the lord no emo band has attempted Fela Kuti's Zombie!

Stew (stew s), Friday, 13 October 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

'zombie' is very bad but all of emo is worse

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 13 October 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

now, if an emo band should cover "Zomby Woof"...

Nu-metal, surely

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 13 October 2006 17:58 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I meant the gothy end of nu metal like Mariln Manson and Orgy

Period period period (Period period period), Friday, 13 October 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

an emo cover of this song would use some clever lyrical editing turn the anti-war message into an anti-'that one bitch from high school' message

gear (gear), Friday, 13 October 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

I blame the Northern Ireland peace process.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

Can someone YSI the cantonese Cranberries' song from Chunking Express?

roc u like a ยง (ex machina), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

I proffer that IMHO The Fall-outs' "Zombie" is the best of all songs with that name.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I once did an emo-ish cover of "Original Suffer Head." Okay, it wasn't that emo.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

MCR could actually make this a good song
