So, this evening Faust will play on a ship somewhere in the docks of Amsterdam. I really like Faust, but have never listened to their more recent stuff. I am pretty afraid of being dissapointed, should I be?
Anyway, would it be worth it to get on my bike, pay ten bucks and go see them?

Oh yeah, I am pretty new here, have been lurking for a while but decided to register for such an imported question as this.
So, let your knowledge flow! Or something.

Sounds good to me

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

How much is 10 Euros in proper money tho?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

That is impressively cheap. Yes I would probably go. They threw metal poles at the audience when I saw them last year

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

shit, i'd go. last thing i heard by them was ravvivando and it wasn't bad.

Where is the ship going?

(heck, go for it. If it's dull, explore!)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

10 euros is around £6

It's a no-brainer.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Saw them 3 (or more?) times since they reformed, top class entertainment each time. £6 to see Faust. On a ship. Duh!

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

They were outstanding in London last year. At one point one of the dudes in the front row had his shirt ironed. What more could you ask?

paizuri-san (davidcorp), Friday, 13 October 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck yes. They show these new "NOIZE" kids where to get off. You haven't lived until you've seen a 50 year old German dude in leiderhosen banging away at scrap metal with an enthusiasm that would make yer average Wire reader shit themselves.

When I saw them (OK, this was about 5 years ago) they were doing arc welding live onstage. Well worth the prices of admission. Especially on a ship.

This is the ship they will be playing on:

I can't go tonight, unfortunately, but it definately seems like something special. And I mean come on, it's the great Faust!

Gerard (Gerard), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

As it's Faust, do you think the ship will sell its sail to the devil?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

I think they already did, since there doesn't seem to be a sail.

Gerard (Gerard), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

Is that ship the Stubnitz?

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:22 (nineteen years ago)

Yes sir!

Gerard (Gerard), Friday, 13 October 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

Why is it... glowing?

braveclub (braveclub), Friday, 13 October 2006 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

bring your own lifejacket, fire-retardant clothing and gas mask

Paul (scifisoul), Friday, 13 October 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

this seems like a no brainer. if you're really that worried about it being a waste of your 10 euros, just bring along a record for them to sign and then hock it on ebay.

Dan Gr (certain), Friday, 13 October 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

I wanna go

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 13 October 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

"£6 to see Faust. On a ship. Duh!"

OTM

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 13 October 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

One time I saw Faust in London they let off some kind of smoke bomb and cleared the venue. Fuck knows what that'd be like on a boat, terrifying I would have thought. It'd be like Das Boot or something.
Is Jean-Herve Peron back in the band now? They were way better with him.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Friday, 13 October 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

it was a flare - apparently they didn't expect the entire Garage (the venue) to fill with lung-choking, blinding smoke (I couldn't see my friends 2 feet away from me!). based on the pile-up, slow movement and people TRYING TO GET BACK IN (!?) at the exit, in a real emergency we'd have been goners.
finally emerging I saw Tim Gane and Mary Hansen (sob) also standing outside.

Paul (scifisoul), Friday, 13 October 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

I've seen Wolf Eyes and Battles play in that boat! It's a really nice venue, with the main stage actually in the hull of the vessel. I had to go and walk around on the deck towards the end of Wolf Eye's set because the noize was so overwhelming (and I'd neglected to bring earplugs).

More importantly, what were Faust like?!

myopic_void (myopic_void), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

I actually had decided to go, but my bike got stolen (fuck you, Amsterdam) and it would be very unpractical to walk the part I would have otherwise done by bike to the ship late in the evening on my own, so I didn't go. Haha. Oh well.

Coming shows on the ship will be K.K. Null and the usa is a monster i think, so i will check that out.

poopsloop (poopsloop), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

they're not the same band they were in the 70's without their sound-designing engineer Kurt Graupner and their main songwriter Rudolf Sosna -- they concentrate on the noise & the basic rhythms -- that in mind, you should definitely go
