what is the point of launching a magazine that offers absolutely nothing new.

i can see this being another failure ala bullit and bang.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 13 October 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

For a sec I thought that said "cillit bang"

Terrible masthead, this magazine has

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 13 October 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

I am just shocked that a magazine so awful can be launched in 2006, it looked so unremarkable. target market would be 15-20? that listen to zane lowe?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 13 October 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

and not only all that - but issue one = 220 pages plus !
will be interesting to see how many pages they fill for #2. ..

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 06:45 (nineteen years ago)

I had a flick through.

Apparently, every album they've reviewed is close to fantastic.

Mag ends.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 07:10 (nineteen years ago)

bad reviews create risk of offending core readership

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 07:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but also runs risk of Boring the readership. It did for Melody Maker in the end...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently, every album they've reviewed is close to fantastic.

This is rather usual for new mags, particularly if the writers are new to reviewing.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Hip Hop, R&B, Jungle, Dub etc. YAWN!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

FAKE GEIR

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

What do you think of Rock-A-Rolla
It at least covers some bands I like that Kerrang doesn't seem to bother with much (or at all). Plus the 1st issue had Khanate on the cover!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

Why is it (R-A-R) designed to look like a slightly trendy parish newsletter?

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

Mike Patton is shitting for Jesus.

James Herbert Dip (noodle vague), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

At least the content is good, Dom. Which makes a change for a lot of rock mags these days.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

The content isn't good. They write about some good bands. There's a difference

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Still better than most rock mags.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

Geir, Hongro, Trad etc. YAWN!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

Just wait til he publishes his own magazine Geir Musical Express.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

Hip-Hop Disconnection

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

Rocksound: STILL GOING.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure RockSound will actually survive a nuclear holocaust, such is its persistence.

I don't know if me joining this group breaks some kind of legal rule but fuck it, PM was my baby after all.

You know my (soon to be) ex wife actually made the name up over a curry in Borough Green. I was really struggling to think of something that might work. I kept thinking of Play, but of course there's a PlayStation mag with that name. Eventually she said, 'Why not Playmusic?' History was made over that curry...

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Chaos ensued in Camden on Sunday as Clash Magazine’s Sunday Sessions returned to the Lock Tavern with a capacity-full crowd stuffed in to see a rousing return from The Thrills.

acrobat, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

I can't believe that of all the 'alternative' bands on the British indie scene, Biffy Clyro had to be the ones who made the huge commercial breakthrough. ARGH.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that's something that keeps me awake at night as well. Ten Benson could have been someone.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

it's a shame louis has become southall's padawan, an apprentice dj martian would have been far more entertaining.

acrobat, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

DJ Martian holds a certain sway! Without him I wouldn't be such a massive fan of Ulver's 'Blood Inside'. His vast depth of knowledge is of consistent use to me.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

hey Louis that HMV guy knew all along, eh?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

that HMV guy may have known all along, but that doesn't stop him from being a zeitgeist-following drone with a rubbish taste in metal.

btw kerr is another of my ILM mentors, he'd be unhappy if I didn't mention him and I think that might be him just there

Just got offed, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Louis, are you impressionable enough to like anything ILXors of a certain status recommend?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Does he trust The Lex?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

btw check out 1995 kerrang poll. Did rock music start to go down the dumper then?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

No, because they're not always going to be right. If they recommend something I like the look of, I'll give it a go, but there's plenty of stuff they like which really isn't my kind of thing. In fact, I don't go by 'status', I go by quality of recommendation, so if ANYONE here suggests something I like the look of (see: the 90's alternative masterpieces WANTED thread) then I'll investigate. There are people here who seem to take more of an interest in my musical upbringing, which is nice, but any decent lead and I'm off. Even you, Dom; your enthusiasm for Half Man Half Biscuit has gone a long way to persuading me to check them out. Certainly the lyrics you've reposted here have been pretty awesome.

'Certain status' is just bollocks.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

I'M 5'8" DAMNIT

Scik Mouthy, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

Louis, get on that Krautrock poll thread and take notes!

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

haha

I might get faust IV

Just got offed, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Louis reads between the lines WELL!
