StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

What do you win?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

No idea. Our respect? :-)

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

On first go, I have a score of 12.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

I had 3, which isn't all that surprising as the Gold era is a little before my time, I think.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

They're offering £45,000 on the Magic FM Mystery Voice competition at the moment!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

Bleah, I only got 6 on first go.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

I too got a score of 12 on first pass...this one strikes me as being tougher than that band photo quiz of a couple years ago...

hank (hank s), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

I got 7. This is NOT EASY.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

14 so far but some of these are going to be really tough.

mms (mms), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

I think it'd be nicer if it told you you had the artist right (except that the ones I got straight away were all ones I knew, but I was a bit disheartened when I typed in, say, Pink Floyd - that's not spoiling fun, right, you all got that? - and it didn't say I was correct until I put the album title in as well)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

on first glance i only know three of them, and they're probably the easiest ones (gnss, pnk fld and rxy msc)

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

actually, no. second row, on the left, surely the simplest... :-)

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

watch your punctuation, folks...

no more spoilers!

hank (hank s), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

I'm on 15 now. (I didn't have Roxy, ta.)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Second row, on the left, took me a while!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

After getting four in the top row first time I looked, beginning to struggle at 10.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

By row,

3
2
4
3
4

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

I got 10. Now I'm stumped. I keep thinking four or five of them are James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James."

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

i'm on 15. if you look at the banner at the top of the page there are a couple of albums that are featured in the quiz

mms (mms), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Now up to 11 having realised that putting a space at the end of the line before getting out of the box makes it wrong.

Currently:

3
1 (can you tell which one, haha?)
3
1
3

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

OK, four on the bottom line now. I hate myself for getting the bottom right :-/

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

2
3
3
2
3
= 13.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

I'm at 16. One of their "correct" answers is misspelled, and won't accept the proper spelling.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Also stuck on 16. The two at the right of the bottom row are torturing me. One of mine will only accept an American spelling, not a British one.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

there's only two things the one on the right second row down can be and it's not accepting either.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

I'm convinced I know that one too, but I can't make it work either.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

I got 9. Couldn't remember the correct Bowie and Madonna titles

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

2 (td, pg)
2 (tb, rs)
2 (m, mj)
1 (tr)
4 (pf, ps, g, tt)

a.b. (alanbanana), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Woah with the hints! (but that could help since they don't bear a huge resemblance to stuff I've got)

In fact, cheers for one on the bottom line that's been bugging me!!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

ah. well. got it. and they screwed it up.

9 so far. i will not cease from mental strife.

GOD PUNCH HATES THIS QUIZ (yournullfame), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'm at 16. One of their "correct" answers is misspelled, and won't accept the proper spelling.
-- Daniel Peterson (dcpeterso...), Today 9:27 AM. (polkaholic)

there's only two things the one on the right second row down can be and it's not accepting either.
-- GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (el.sabo...), Today 9:36 AM. (yournullfame)

you have to take out the "/" and it accepts it.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

Nope, nothing to do with "/"

It's the American/British spelling one Mike T-Diva referred to.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, just got that one.

Row 5, Column D. You have to use the American spelling.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

we're talking about different things, i think.

it's everything to do with "/"

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

alright, i got 12. somebody call me when all of the answers are posted.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry to be confusing. Yes, row 2 on the end, no "/" (and no space either) row 4 second from end use American spelling. I'm at 21.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

Far right, bottom row - my first gig was the tour for this album.

James Herbert Dip (noodle vague), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

Seems to be case sensitive as well...

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

it's definitely not case-sensitive

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

4th row down, 2nd from right IS Rumours but it won't accept it!

nate woolls (napawo), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, just got that one.

Row 5, Column D. You have to use the American spelling.

Oops, should've read that first

nate woolls (napawo), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

it's definitely not case-sensitive

Row 1 Column 4 was for me.

4th row down, 2nd from right IS Rumours but it won't accept it!

It does if you're in the US, hint hint.

First pass I'm good for 13. A couple of them are bugging the bejesus out of me.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

http://www2.capitalgold.com/staticweb/edfeatures/gold_album/datastor.js

a.b. (alanbanana), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

Now I'm up to 15. Ironically, I've only owned 3 of them.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, Row 5 Column 6 is completely uncalled for. How many people are going to get that one?

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

I'm assuming a.b. posted the answers. How long can I go without looking?

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Alright, I'm calling it at 16.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

xxpost

I got it straight off!

James Herbert Dip (noodle vague), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

I quit at 14...

hank (hank s), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, Row 5 Column 6 is completely uncalled for. How many people are going to get that one?

Me, I got it too! I admitted so upthread!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

13, I was convinced row 1,col 4 was Colour by Numbers by Culture Club. No way will I complete this.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

same era, wrong band.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

If by era you mean decade, then I s'pose so.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

ooh 4 years... what ever was i thinking? :-O

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

so i clicked on ab's link, i didn't get anything.

i'm stuck on 17

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I have a weirdy definition of era that doesn't involve, erm, anything logical. Ignore me.

(xpost)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, got row 1 col4 and the one with the american spelling, up to 15 now.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

so i clicked on ab's link, i didn't get anything.

It's a javascript file, so you've got to download it and open in Textpad or the like.

Should I post the answers here in spoiler script (you have to highlight to read it)?

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, Row 5 Column 6 is completely uncalled for. How many people are going to get that one?

got it straight off!

-- James Herbert Dip (noodle_vagu...), October 18th, 2006 2:15 PM.

Me, I got it too! I admitted so upthread!

-- ailsa (ailsa.watso...), October 18th, 2006 4:04 PM.

Prog nerds abound! Was that album big in the UK? Cos in the States it's a fairly esoteric pick, I think.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:03 (nineteen years ago)

Their 2 biggest hit singles came from that album, I think. Both Top 10 over here.

James Herbert Dip (noodle vague), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

That must be it.

Let's test
the white font

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

Not working as planned, ah well. Anyone know what the HTML is to hide text on ILX?

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

I ended up at 22 before checking the answers. I would not have gotten the remaining ones if I tried for the next 20 years, because they are either too old, too obscure, or lame records I never paid any attention to.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

Go get 'em, you crazy iconoclast!

James Herbert Dip (noodle vague), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

i had 8. difficult!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

// if you're reading this - you are a bad person, stop
// spoiling everybody's fun.
// no one likes a smart arse.
//

haha

ONIMO's fish might turn into lizards (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

Do it like this (but with angle brackets):

[p style="color:#fff;"]Words words words[/p]

I WANT ANSWERS! (I ONLY GOT THREE, BOO-HOO)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

is the cow one pink floyd?

i thought it was lather by frank zappa but it won't accept that...

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

I've got 3: Pink Floyd (yes, it's the 'cow one': Atom Heart Mother), Madonna (Like A Prayer) and The Doors (S/T). This is hard!

GLC (ZakAce), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks jaymc

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 19 October 2006 00:48 (nineteen years ago)

O RLY

The Bearnaise-Stain Bears (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 19 October 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

RLY

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 19 October 2006 01:16 (nineteen years ago)

Did you mean for the answers to be invisible until the text was selected? Because it's black type for me.

The Bearnaise-Stain Bears (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 19 October 2006 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Hm. White for me. Browser incompatibility? Can you read jaymc's "I WANT ANSWERS! (I ONLY GOT THREE, BOO-HOO)" cuz that's white for me as well.

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 19 October 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe I should have a mod delete my post?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 19 October 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

white for me.
i can't believe i didn't get the dreaming. have no idea who marillion is.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 19 October 2006 02:01 (nineteen years ago)

You're very, very lucky then.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 19 October 2006 02:18 (nineteen years ago)

Don't change anything on my account -- I had already gone to the linked page with the answers.

That's weird that the type is black for me. (Firefox 1.5.0.7, Mac, Greasemonkey enabled to strip CSS out of ILX.)

The Bearnaise-Stain Bears (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 19 October 2006 02:38 (nineteen years ago)

Funny, I don't know that I'd seen the Row 2 Column 2 album cover before, but I totally knew those were his lips.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 October 2006 04:11 (nineteen years ago)

The only one I know is the moth one :(

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 19 October 2006 04:19 (nineteen years ago)

i can't believe i didn't get the dreaming. have no idea who marillion is.

can we swap brains? not much to offer in return though.

:-( i couldn't come up with any titles. god, i do need a new brain.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 19 October 2006 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

Now I'm up to 15. Ironically, I've only owned 3 of them.

Like me, you must browse the used bins weekly. I quit at 20. The two in the center, row 3, are murder. I have this urge to type in "the jets" for all the ones I don't know.

Bjorn Deleuze (Ocelot Wildly), Thursday, 19 October 2006 07:38 (nineteen years ago)

Greasemonkey enabled to strip CSS out of ILX

That's probably it - the hide text tag on ILM uses CSS.

Like me, you must browse the used bins weekly.

Chalk it up to a youth misspent in many a record store - back when the covers were big enough that you could actually appreciate the artwork.

I quit at 20. The two in the center, row 3, are murder.

R3C3 was indeed killing me - Simon & Garfunkel? Carpenters? Argh! R5C1 and R5C3 were also bedeviling.
