sparks - "my other voice"

i keep playing this song and i'm looking for things w/ a similar bombed-out-glitter-analog-afterlife vibe, epic and/or melodic and otherworldly and comedown. phasing and other weirdnesses a plus. don't know much about disco. i like related moroder stuff, but it's not, i dunno, dreamy enough? chanteuses are cool, vocals are cool, instrumentals work. newer things could work i guess, maybe the superpither i've heard has a similar vibe, some of that is too digital-sounding for what i'm after though... i tried using search, btw, but it's fucked up on my comp, so sorry if i'm being redundant, links to other threads work too.

superpither.

Interesting song to choose -- it gets the least attention of the six on Number One in Heaven but I do think it's quite captivating. V. Daft Punk-like I'd say...

yeah it's not a stomper like "tryouts" or "la dolce vita", but definitely a slice of something i'd like to hear more of. daft punk makes sense. i'm pretty fucking dance-dumb though, so even obvious recommendations are cool... should i sample some of 'homework' maybe?

Some of the stuff on Silent Shout maybe? "Still Light" and possibly "The Captain"?

beautiful song...

the Mael Bros produced (with the help of Moroder and Midney apparently) Dancing is Dangerous by Noel has an amazing sound that captures it a bit during the intro and verses.

some italo-disco like B.W.H.'s Stop

a lot of "cosmic" stuff, where it's a mixture of electronic disco and more organic sounds may do the job.

um wow, stop is amazing

i really have a soft spot for this song, for sure. if you haven't heard the first song off sparks' next lp, "when i'm with you", you might do well to check it out as it's definitely on the comedown, otherwordly, glitter tip. plus you can sway, instead of shimmy, to it. and read what you want into the lyrics ("i meet a lot of people when i'm with you, i lose a lot of sleep when i'm with you"), but they could indicate a bombed out sense in that "higher baby - don't ever come down!" kind of way.

that is, the song is called "When i'm with you", the lp is Terminal Jive. The Maels do dismiss the record, but it's worth it for that track, and a few others.

and may i also recommend "spaced out" by cloud one.

*has revelation*

fauxhemian (fauxhemian), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

"Terminal Jive" is worth for "Young Girls" alone.

oh i love terminal jive too. i'm in the middle of getting a boner over musical paradise i've stupidly ignored until now, thx to dan s.

fauxhemian (fauxhemian), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:20 (nineteen years ago)

Terminal Jive is great - Stereo is a killer track. There are a few on Angst In My Pants that might fit the bill - Sherlock Holmes or The Decline And Fall Of Me spring to mind.

seriously? you found Stop and Loda mixes that fast?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 19 October 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

s1sk + googled cosmic afro/disco. disgustingly simple i guess. now i'm slowly digesting that beardo disco thread.

fauxhemian (fauxhemian), Thursday, 19 October 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

some of that stuff will get to rock/hippy. I think the more popular electro-italo and space disco stuff will float your boat some more, with it's futuristic drum/synth programming, weird instrumental additions, distant voices in strange accents etc. Charly's Spacer Woman, Black Devil Disco Club, Mr Flagio's Take a Chance are pretty well known examples, all somehwat melancholic/dark. Faster then the cosmic stuff though.
