Outstanding achievemnt award goes to..

Oasis are to be given an outstanding achievement prize at next year's Brit Awards, organisers have announced.

The Manchester band shot to fame in 1994, and were at the forefront of the Britpop scene which saw guitar music return to the UK charts.

BPI chairman Peter Jamieson said: "Oasis set the standard for many of the young rock bands who are currently enjoying success in the UK charts."

Previous winners of the Brit award for outstanding achievement include the Bee Gees, Paul Weller, Sting and the Spice Girls.

Belle and Sebastian won one. It pissed Pete Waterman off.

There you go.

(since there doesn't actually appear to be a question in the thread title or first post, I'll go with yours instead)

a few days ago I was discussing the current state of british pop/rock and they couldn't disagree with the fact that it is awful. I wonder if it's already been worse ?

at least genuinely good, musically interesting bands such as pulp, sfa and blur were prominent in the British charts at that time. all the good british music nowadays IMO is relatively obscure to the casual listener.

dj martian otm, although lee harris has to be in there as well

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 19 October 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

well the problem is the brits aren't good at hip hop / rnb, are they ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 19 October 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

The problem is that The Lex is a cloth-eared goon who needs a new schtick.

(and that people think that anyone still gives a shit about the Brits)

At a press conference, a BPI spokesman quipped: "What people forget is that the Brit Awards are about record sales."

Are Ciara and Ellen Alien British? Wow.

zeus (zeus), Friday, 20 October 2006 07:41 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe they're 3,945th and 3,946th respectively on the Best International Act shortlist.

Didn't Kate Bush get one of these outstanding achievement awards? Sort of redeems it a bit.

braveclub (braveclub), Friday, 20 October 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

She got the Q outstanding achievement award (equivalent). From what I heard she was offered the Brits one but they withdrew it after she told them she wouldn't do a live performance.
