there's lots of 'em. Who's got the longest?

Here's some I thought of:

Godspeed You Black Emperor!
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult

and a name so long that it contains an ellipsis:
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

When People Were Shorter and Lived Near the Water

Atombombpocketknife

- possibly the longest name comprised of a (German style) single word.

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, and Titch

- an admirable effort to give equal billing to every member.

Hello We Are A Shitty Indie Band With A Rather Long Name In The Hope It May Attract More Then Our Three Friends To Our Next Shitty Gig

The Real Esteban Buttez (EstieButtez1), Saturday, 21 October 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

does that whole "Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-la-la Band" thing count?

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Saturday, 21 October 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

black rebel motorcycle club
sunny day real estate
rage against the machine
the cooper temple clause
the international noise conspiracy
brian jonestown massacre

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Saturday, 21 October 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

sunny day real estate = 18 characters
the velvet underground = 20 characters

the velvet underground = NOT a 'really long' band-name
sunny day real estate = DITTO

in fact, none of those are very long at all.

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Saturday, 21 October 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

black tape for a blue girl

suicide hotline orgasm (blood bitch), Saturday, 21 October 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

dr. buzzard's original savannah band
shimmer kids underpop association
presidents of the united states of america

i'm guessing ampersanded names should probably be excluded, as "someone & the somethings" seems to often just be a bid to see how long you can make your band's name.

sublime frequency (sublime frequency), Saturday, 21 October 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

sripathi panditharadhyula balasubrahmanyam

old filmi singer, mostly known as "s.p. balasubrahmanyam" though.
also, i guess he's not really a "band name".

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Saturday, 21 October 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

There used to be a Norwegian band called Morten Jørgensen Og Spekkhoggerne Som Fulgte Etter Danskebåten Uten å Røre Spyet Som Rant Fra Ripa, which translates something like Morgen Jørgensen And The Killer Whales That Followed The Denmark Ferry Without Touching The Vomit Running Down From The Edge Of The Ship

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 21 October 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

atombombpocketknife

-possibly the longest name comprised of a (German style) single word.

Or you could just go with a German band: Ostenzonensuppenwurfelmachenkrebs

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Saturday, 21 October 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

Or I could spell it correctly: Ostzonensuppenwurfelmachenkrebs (31 letters)

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Saturday, 21 October 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet takes longer to say than it does to listen to one of their songs

We Wrote the Book on Connectors
Clap Your Hands Say Hi To Your Mom (it's only a matter of time)
and I gotta bust out Excuse Me Sir, Which Way to the Airport? from some other long-band-name thread

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Sunday, 22 October 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

re:vu/sdre it's not the number of characters that matters it's the syllables. except they are both 6 syllables (counting "the") and so your point is still valid.

ostzonensuppenwurfelmachenkrebs (10) actually comes from a newspaper headline, which makes it even better.

freiwilligeselbstkontrolle (8), almost as long.

the i live the life of a movie star secret hideout (14)
don armando's second avenue rhumba band (12)
the sisterhood of convoluted thinkers (11)
sixtynine and the continuous people (11)
orchestral manoeuvres in the dark (9)
deutsch amerikanische freundschaft (9)
the royal family and the poor (9)

Rock 'n' Roll Dubble Bubble Trading Card Co. of Philadelphia 1941

-- (688), Sunday, 22 October 2006 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

I think the Dubble Bubble one is the longest name ever for a Billboard charting artist. (Unless you count the charting version of "All About the Benjamins" that credits a half-dozen "featuring" artists.)

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Sunday, 22 October 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

how is boy least likely a long name?

Dan Gr (certain), Monday, 23 October 2006 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I forgot a "to" at the end if that makes any difference. Is there even a the at the beginning? 5 words with the "the"

Jeez, I'm sorry it's not some sort of 12 page essay. . .
