Shlomo Shemesh (Shlomo Shemesh), Sunday, 22 October 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

There's a bit of discussion in the Kompakt thread.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Sunday, 22 October 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

I see. Well, it's quite good, so far. That tracklisting above may be missing some mp3-only tracks that will be on the full-length release, fyi.

Shlomo Shemesh (Shlomo Shemesh), Sunday, 22 October 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

здравствулте! Michael Mayer - Immer 2 has leaked

ORSON. (sanskrit), Sunday, 22 October 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

its just a fucking Mix Cd? so who really gives a shit if it "leaks" a leak would imply that there has been some unscheduled release of someones "art"work..

- whereas all these tracks are already out anyway..

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Monday, 23 October 2006 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

Basically it means "it has leaked, therefore you can now get it". So that's why people might give a shit. Duh.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Monday, 23 October 2006 00:16 (nineteen years ago)

i know what you mean. I still dont' give a shit... mix cds are a waste of time and money.

This is ILM. It's "lol indie", not "lol dance music".

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

if you showed me that tracklisting, i wouldn't have guessed it was a kompakt dj!

HUNTA-V (vahid), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

if you had ...

HUNTA-V (vahid), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

really?

Köhncke, SCSI-9, Rice Twins = kompakt
Geiger, Somfay, Schäfer = artists on cologne-based labels
Sten, Crowdpleaser = outsourced kompakt sound

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

so this is good?

lets here some concrete statements.

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

*hear

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

No need to listen to and/or talk about it, the important thing is that it has leaked.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 23 October 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

It's great. "18 Years" is one of the best tracks of the year (a better Detroit rip than "Full Clip" surely???) and the Scsi-9/Jesse Somfay section is absolutely inspired.

It's not as good as Immer or the Fabric mix but that's not particularly damning.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 23 October 2006 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

Thats good to hear! I was getting worried after everyone was all down on Luomo that these guys would all start to let me down.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

It's got quite a different feel to the other mixes (which themselves feel different to one another) - it's kind of gentle and bemused and foggy - arguably it's closer to Tobias Thomas's Smallville mix. Definitely it's own beast though.

Whereas with Luomo it's like, you've already got The Present Lover so you don't really need Paper Tigers.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 00:16 (nineteen years ago)

""18 Years" is one of the best tracks of the year"

agree! it's really versatile in the mix too! (i'm talking just in general here. haven't heard the mayer yet) the crowdpleaser and st plomb album is one of my favorites from this year for sure.

josh. (disco stu), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, it sounds kind of amazing emerging out of anything. If anything Mayer underutilises it a bit - he only lets the second section with the eerie synth-strings run for a couple of minutes before mixing straight into Kohncke's "Advance".

I prefer its use on a mix by Richard Carnage at allsexistape.blogspot.com - where he plays it in between the Guido Schneider mix of "Loverboy" and Heidi & Riton's "Vejer".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 00:46 (nineteen years ago)

weird, to me the "trevor aka pascal schaefer" track previous is far more detroit-ish, sadly it only gets a paltry two minutes in the mix... crowdpleaser is pretty damn average to my ears, at the least it's fussy & a little overly softsynth sounding. Probably my least favourite track on there! (excepting the go-nowhere-prettily openers and the possibly overcooked closers)

the run from 6/7/8/9/10 is PURE GOLD though!

Moderation Request Line (fandango), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

For me, the mix really kicks in with the Lindstrom track. I agree the Crowdpleaser track is great, it might just sound a tad too familiar to these ears.

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

The Lindstrom track is fucking ace. I'm not sure how I think about this as a whole yet, I like the beginning but then my attention started to stray somewhat.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Thursday, 2 November 2006 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

I love the Dan Simmonds track, that's really become a sleeper favourite for me. I tracked down the 12 inch on Musik Krause, every track on it is ace, including this slow track which is even jazzier than "The Dog".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 3 November 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not a huge fan of mix CDs but i have this on now and it sounds great. very nicely surprised.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 5 November 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

yeah me too. but it's kinda sneaking up on me, slowly. i don't feel that lindstrom/terje is out of place at all, i love it when those vocals come in at that point during the mix. in fact, i would have liked a few more 'vocal tracks'. i know nothing about american baseball.

willem -- (willem), Sunday, 5 November 2006 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

I've never been that sure about Michael Mayer - preferring the more techy, dancefloor-friendly Tobias Thomas side of Kompakt - but this album is making me reappraise him, this album sounds great from where I'm sitting.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

I'll relisten on better speakers today, my car has a pretty shit soundsystem. It does seem a bit low key tho...plus I've heard the Lindstrom remix 1000 times too many...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 6 November 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

Again, would be more exciting if it had actually come out in Feb 2006!

"referring the more techy, dancefloor-friendly Tobias Thomas side of Kompakt "

??? This sentence doesn't really compute.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 6 November 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

Again, would be more exciting if it had actually come out in Feb 2006!

Apparently this has been in-the-works since around then, maybe this has been mentioned already upthread.. He spent a really long time selection (over a year) and keeps the transitions between songs as short as possible.

michael mayer is no jeff mills!
-- PRKLTR (fffffezaff...), October 23rd, 2006.

exactly!!

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Monday, 6 November 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

That was the point I was trying to make Harshaw - I'm prety sure the mix was actually largely finalised at the beginning of the year, which was also when it was slated for release - Someone Else had already confirmed that his track was on the mix at that stage. Most of the tracks are from around that time or are Kompakt tracks (i.e. he would have had advance copies).

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

This sounded great on the Eurostar this morning. I was feeling a bit under the weather before I put it on but I soon felt better! Standouts were: Simmonds, the Crowdpleaser-Kohncke-Lindstrom sequence, SCSI-9 and the creepy Geiger remix at the end.

Is it Erlend wotsit doing the vocals on the DK7 track?

On the back of the CD case it says the mix was made in August (but that may just be when it was finished off, of course).

The bonus mp3s are not on the CD, you have to download them from a web site using a special one-off code: supposedly it's a compilation of "some of Michael's favourite tracks".

Jeff W (zebedee), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

I also don't really like "Advance", in fact the disco section in the middle kinda sticks out like a sore thumb for me, despite the fact I like the Todd Terje track.

One thing about "Advance" tho, what is the twangy sample from, it's driving me mad.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

Duran Duran Wild Boys.

Finally I am able to answer an obscure question on ILM!

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

The bass does sound like "Wild Boys" but I think it's actually from Boz Scaggs' "Lowdown" -- that's also where the drums appear to come from.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Andy_K is right about Scaggs and "Advance."

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

This MM feature / interview may be of interest:
http://www.giantstep.net/features/135/

Right at the bottom is the alleged tracklist for the bonus mp3 compilation. However, according to the version of it I downloaded last night from kompakt-mp3.net, the Adolf Noise remix has been replaced by "2nd Booty" by Frank West (which is of course also on Immer 2 itself).

I'm sure that's not the case...

braveclub (braveclub), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

You may be right. I haven't had the chance to actually listen to the mp3s yet.

Talking about his DJ sets rather than productions.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Wow! Thanks - getting that now.

I was surprised because almost every Mayer live mix I've heard has been pretty driving, whereas when I saw Tobias Thomas he played quite a bit of ambient, then did an anthemic but not particularly hard set (the "peaks" were Superpitcher remixes, the Wighnomy Bros remix of "This World" and an awesome remix of his own "Protest Song" which I've yet to identify - not Mayer's). Of course these guys can be pretty unpredictable - I'd never guess Mayer's typical DJ style from his released mixes.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

That link was pinched from the 4four board which - if you register - has a great mixset download section. Quite a lot of the London post-tech house scene post in the chat section too, although there's far too much talk for my liking. http://4four.org/

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 9 November 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

This mix is kind of interesting. I feel like Lindstrom is kind of changing the game.

I don't believe you. :)

Just had a chance to hear it once today and it sounds like a worthy sequel (to part 1, I never really liked the Fabric mix.)
