Right now I'm listening to the first track and it's quite good, I think. Definitely looking forward to hear the whole album.

Any thoughts?

groovemaan (groove nihilist), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

it's pretty boring. the first track might be the best thing on the album.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

I like it.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

i like it as well, but not in the usual i like sunn O))) way. first track is a highlight indeed

rizzx (rizzx), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

Cracking good stuff, but pretty different from what each side does on its own.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

i'm pretty much sick of both of these bands' shticks. too much shtick. shtickball.

GOD PUNCH TO SHTICK RAZOR (yournullfame), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

bought it yesterday. will listen tonight.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

I rather like it.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Make every effort to locate the 2CD version. Vastly superior to the single-disc.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Mine is on order from Southern Lord. Will arrive this week sometime I hope.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

Really disappointing on first listen, nothing happening and very unfocused. Probably needs a little more time with it.

what?! I've heard no mention of this...and there's nothing on the southern site.

anyway, it's too late now. *sigh*

on first listen, it's a good album on the whole, stunning in parts (the first track, the jesse sykes and joe preston contributions) but dragged a tad in others.

oh, there is. dammit.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone know of any UK websites selling the 2cd version?

Joe Grassby (sloejoe), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

No, but lets face it you're probably cheaper ordering from Southern Lord.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Too right. I didn't realise it would only be £12.98!

Joe Grassby (sloejoe), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

RULES.

LCK THRD.

BONERTIME! (ddb1), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

From the clips I've heard I'm not sure if the drums add much to the drone, not exactly incompatible as such but not terrifically complementary. They kind of make the drone sound less brutal, strangely.

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

Been bathing in it for only a few days now, 'cuz I actually have to pay for the music I listen to. An amazing thing. Surprised at the hug action the "pretty track" w/ Jesse Sykes is getting, 'cuz I don't think it holds a candle to galactic horn miasma that follows it (Akuma No Somethingorother).

This is just an overwhelmingly beautiful thing. It's scary and all, but nowhere near as rocked or blackened as I'd expected. Once you get past the mouth of Kali, it's meditative, occasionally even strangely anthemic. Comes closer to the massage-chair spiritual powerdrone of Earth II than any other Sunn record I can think of. Doesn't sound much like Boris, either.

Are we past this? Is even the backlash backlash over?

Adam Beales (Pye Poudre), Saturday, 4 November 2006 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

I got my cd from SL yesterday(I'm no journo so I pay for mine too)
and I absolutely LOVE the 2nd cd. Fantastic stuff.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Saturday, 4 November 2006 00:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I didn't even mention Her Lips Were Wet With Venom. Agreed. Best thing on the album, hands down. And it ain't even on the album. Actually, it's kinda what I expected the whole thing to sound like...

Adam Beales (Pye Poudre), Saturday, 4 November 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

Man I wish my copy would hurry up and get here from SL. This is what happens when I do the right thing and legitimately purchase an anticipated album.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Saturday, 4 November 2006 02:03 (nineteen years ago)

Finally ordered a copy of the 2xCD, along with their "Darkness Hath No Boundaries" label comp. Does anyone know anything about this? Even a tracklist would be nice, since I couldn't find one on southernlord.com. Ordered it anyway because I was curious and it was $1.50.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 4 November 2006 06:04 (nineteen years ago)

...okay, never mind, found the tracklist. And the fact that it's free with orders anyway. Guess I'll give away the extra copy or something.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 4 November 2006 07:04 (nineteen years ago)

I really fucking like this. Fuck a backlash.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Saturday, 4 November 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

first: i like boris.

second: i love boris.

third: i don't like boris very much.

fourth: FUCK YOU I LIKE BORIS TWICE AS MUCH NOW MOM^H^H^H ASSHOLE

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Saturday, 4 November 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

There's 2 versions of the comp. I got both free. Version 2 came with Altar.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Saturday, 4 November 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

Btw I've seen the comps selling for £10 on ebay...

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Saturday, 4 November 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

"The Sinking Belle" is so brilliant, it makes me hardly care that Sianspheric only bother making an album every five years or so. It's also GREAT for listening to during a twilight walk with your iPod.
