Since I'm a bigger fan of Donny Hathaway than Roberta Flack, I never really got into their duet records, but damn if "Where Is The Love?" isn't a fine early-70's soul ballad. I remember reading some quote from Quincy Jones in an old issue of Jet magazine when that song was a hit...he was praising the teenagers of 1972 for having sophisticated musical tastes, and the fact that "W.I.T.L." was a hit was proof...he then said something like "it's not like 15 years ago when they were buying 'At The Hop' or something stupid like that!"

I don't agree with him - "At The Hop" was one of white East Coast doo-wop's finest moments and I make no apologies for liking it, but at the same time "Where Is The Love?" is just sweet soul goodness that keeps me going for days. Brings back cool memories of growing up as a kid in the era of WATTSTAX, K-Tel commercials, the Roller Derby and Afro picks with the power fist in the handle. Yes indeed.

Betty Wright's "W.I.T.L." was pretty good too, now that I think about it. Don't know about no Black-Eyed Peas and I don't want to know.
