so, this thread is kinda sparked by my seeing Neil Young hanging out at the Bert Jansch show in SF last night... but others I recall are J Mascis at a Peaches show in Detroit. And Marilyn Manson, also at a (different) Peaches show in Detroit. Youze guys?

John Herndon (Tortoise) and Jeremy Jacobsen (Lonesome Organist) were at the Junior Boys show a couple weeks back.

Jeff Tweedy was at Animal Collective.

I've seen Doug McCombs (Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day) there on a number of occasions, too -- can't remember specific bands. (Actually, I think he was at Lady Sovereign...?)

And I assume you're talking about musicians, but Jeffrey Eugenides was hanging out before an Azita set recently, though he must've been there for the opener, since I didn't see him afterward.

Lemmy & Jeffrey Lee Pierce holding each other up, trying to stumble to the bar for last orders @ Dingwalls sometime in the mid-80s. That's a treasured memory BTW.

Tortoise sightings in Chicago don't count. You can go into the Rainbow and see Johnny bartending all the time, or go to Dannys and see him or Jeff Parker DJing. It WAS exciting to see Casey Rice there last week or two ago, back visiting from Australia tho. If anyone cares, he looked great and said Oz is a great place to live...

Stephin Merritt and his entourage were a captive audience at a few of my shows at Fez. The first time, he punctuated my set with painfully sardonic remarks from the back. stephen malkmus hanging outside gbv's first-ever nyc show, at cbgb. i asked him what else was worth checking out when it was over, and he suggested the ass ponys, who were playing the old knitting factory (i think) at something like 2:30 a.m, and who were equally unknown to me at the time. a very good night that was, aided by the fact that gbv hadn't started sucking yet.

Bar/None showcase at the old Knitting Factory. (Yo La Tengo played acoustic; Otis Ball turned up drunk.)

Anton Fier is well-known in rock circles as the drummer for the Feelies, the original Lounge Lizards and mastermind of the Golden Palominos, and these two CDs and now with two unreleased bonus tracks, both long out of print may well be his best work. Featuring Japanese vocalists Phew, bass terrorist Bill Laswell, Bootsy Collins, Buckethead, Makino Kazu (Blonde Redhead) and many of Anton's longtime collaborators, dreamspeed/blindlight 1992–1994 is the defintive document of one of the Downtown scene's most elusive musicians.
