on the lyrics sites they don't include it:

Girl, I've been watching you
From so far across the floor now baby
That's nothing new
I've watched you so many times before now baby
I see that look in your eyes
And what it's telling me
And you know girl that I'm not shy
I'm glad you picked up on my telepathy now baby

You read my mind
Girl I wanna shake you down
I could give you all the loving you need
Come on let me take you down
We'll go all the way to heaven

Oh, I've been missing you
And the way you make me feel inside
What can I do?
I can tell you've got your pride now baby
Come to me, well, well
Let me ease your mind, oh baby
I got the remedy, yes I do
Now give me just a little time

You read my mind
Girl I wanna shake you down
I could give you all the loving you need
Come on let me take you down
We'll go all the way to heaven

Girl, I've been missing you
And you know it's funny
Every time I get to feeling this way
I wish I had you near me, I
I wanna reach out and touch you

I can't stop thinkin' of the things we do
The way you call me baby when I'm holding you
I shake and I shiver when I know you're near
Then you whisper in my ear, oh baby, well, well

You read my mind, (you know you did)
Girl I wanna shake you down
I could give you all the loving you need
Come on let me take you down
We'll go all the way to heaven
I love you then and I always will

i kinda hate this song. it's almost a parody of the smoooooove 80's luvvermang. plus, he was a weird looking dude. kinda reminded me of the dude in soul man. but every once in a while it gets stuck in my head and i hear that "GIRL!!! i've been missing you" and that "WELL WELL". kind of a hybrid between luther and al jarreau. but maybe i'm just dreaming the eeny meeny part. or it's from another song. "eeny meeny miney moe, something, something, don't you know!" or something like that. dude haunts me. and those backing vocals. "you read my mind..." hell, i don't know. maybe it's genius. dude sat in my section once when i waited tables at a saladalley in the bourse in philly. so did grandpa from the gilmore girls and louis anderson. but louis didn't eat from the salad bar. he got himself a big old cheesesteak and ate it at our tables outside the restaurant. i wasn't gonna tell him to move. he was hoooooongry.

this song rules, scott.

i hate when it's in my head. and it has been in my head for 16 years or so. or whenever it came out.

you may or may not want to watch the video then:

but i rather enjoyed it. he's not a weird looking dude! he looks kind of like philip michael thomas.

is he saying "eenie meenie miney moe, come on girl, let's stop the show"?

bijoux (bijoux), Friday, 27 October 2006 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

how much do i love youtube comments:

"the black david hastlehoff go on boi...luv this tune...enneey meeney myneey moe"

bijoux (bijoux), Friday, 27 October 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

xpost i thought he says "eenie meenie miney moe, come on girl, let's brightly show"

when I was a kid I thought it was philip michael thomas, it almost doesnt make any sense that it's not philip michael thomas, I was so psyched about him being a "double threat" or whatever.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 28 October 2006 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

well, he was a double threat. or he put out a horrible album anyway. PMT, that is. the horrible video is probably on youtube.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 October 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

lol that video is even weirder than i remember. i think he sings "c'mon girl let's shock the show"

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 28 October 2006 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

also yeah al jarreau is probably better.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:03 (nineteen years ago)

"come on girl, let's stop the show"

"come on girl, let's brightly show"

"c'mon girl let's shock the show"

controversy!

i haven't watched the video yet, but i will in a bit.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

watch al jarreau rip it up live, bro.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:08 (nineteen years ago)

i love al jarreau.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

he rules!

as do ashford and simpson

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

this is not awesome, however

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

it actually sounds like a combination of "shock" and "start"!!

WELL WELL!!

god, i think watching that exorcised my demons. i still think he looks a little like c thomas howell. and i do kinda like the song. i must like it to remember it so vividly for so long. i remember when he did it on the johnny carson show.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

and that "WELL WELL".

YES this is totally the best part of the song and one the most best/silly/maddening things ever!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:22 (nineteen years ago)

al jarreau had a string of albums in the 70's that are unbelievably good. L is for Lover is a great 80's al jarreau album. we used to play it at saladalley in philly!

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'll never forget jamming the Mornin' cassette tape wiht my best bro back in middle school. we both were amazed by the one-two punch of the title track and "I Can Be All I want To All I need Is to Get My Boogie Down"

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

we were also heavily into Spyro Gyra at the time too though

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:25 (nineteen years ago)

"Blue Rondo a la Turk" from Mornin always was a conundrum for me though. i liked it, but it was over my head.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's cool that Abbott sings the whole song with what would be, in every other song ever, basically throwaway tics and asides and backup lines.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:27 (nineteen years ago)

I kinda feel like Gregory's WELL WELL is only matched by the Freddie J's "OOOOOOOOUR LOVE .. WILL SHINE ... shine" in terms of chill-inducement

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:44 (nineteen years ago)

the first time i consciously heard this track, i was very stoned, driving very slowly. i kind of like it just because of that. and also the "i'm gonna rock you girl" line.

also, from the amg bio:
Abbott's music has crossed every barrier imaginable. He is noted for coining the term "groove ballad," to describe his signature style, and when referring to him, music writers and critics alike have affectionately used the term "Wall Street soul." He is a favorite with the ladies for his sophisticated demeanor and intelligent green eyes.
