You can substitute "Green River" with John Fogerty's "Old Man Down the Road" if desired...

"CCR > pretty much anything"

PREcisely!
though, for a long time i did think Long Cool Woman was a lost post-Fogerty CCR track.
oh, the follies of youth.

A closer match is 'Green River' and Nick Lowe's 'Stick It Where the Sun Don't Shine'. I heard a radio interview w/Lowe where the DJ noted the wholesale appropriation of the riff. Lowe just laughed and said 'yeah, if I ever meet Fogerty, I'll buy him a beer. Wonder who he nicked it from?'

I nominate BÖC's "OD'd On Life Itself"!

"Long Cool Woman" sounds great in a car, which is where I first heard it (as a 6 year old.) But I still can't tell what the song's ABOUT, except that the protagonist (or somebody) is working for the FBI.
