Yeah "12 Seconds," fffffft. Right.

As a native, I couldn't help but sniffle with nostalgia (some of it manufactured, as I was born the year the first Minor Threat record came out).

It sure does. It's a pizza parlor now. Also, don't know if this is obvious or not, but on that yellow arrow website, you can watch all the videos, it's pretty sweet.

"In the dozen or so text messages, you'll learn that until 1991, the Starbucks site was an all-ages art and music venue called d.c. space."

I've never even been to Washington D.C., and have little connection to the hardcore movement and this makes me sad.

My own youthful DC punk guided texting tour would include such a strange, non-legendary, transitional era of D.C./Dischord lore.

~ The Starbucks in Dupont Circle where I served coffee to Ian Svenonious a few times!

~ The weird bar where I saw Branch Manager during a blizzard and the only people in the audience were me and Joe Lally!

~ The community center show where I bought that split Ashes/I Spy 7" from the guy who is now the singer from that OK GO band!

~ St. Albans, where the guys from the pre-Jonathan Fire*Eater band The Ignobles went!

(Sorry, feeling nostalgic this afternoon)

dc space as Starbucks is better than tearing it down, which was the original idea.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 17 November 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

Not much better though. I'll just treasure my memories of shows there--the Bad Brains upstairs in '79 I think with the floor moving(I think they stopped doing upstairs shows after that), various bands downstairs--an early Fugazi gig, slumberland twee pop...

The Howard Theatre in DC, site of countless jazz and r'n'b shows, during the years of segregation sits closed-up, neither knocked down nor turned into a drugstore ala the Ontario Theatre in Adams Morgan where I saw the Teen Idles play with the Cramps I think.

Shangrila Records in Memphis publishes a "Low-life Guide to Memphis" that lists the locations of lots of musically important sites down there. I don't think they've updated in a more high-tech manner though.
