First Song On record sounds like a total continuation of or could easily have appeared on previous album, the rest, not so much

I was listening to No One Receiving from Before And After Science today and it really struck me how much it sounds like an Another Green World track, maybe with a tad more funk thrown in. I guess I always sort of felt this, but it really made an impression on me this time. Backwater, King's Lead Hat, and especially side 2 don't feel the same way at all, even though side two is spacey & mellow.

Anyway, do you find this happens a lot, the first song totally picking up where the previous work left off, before the rest of the newer record goes off in a noticably different direction?
