I will probably regret it but I'm buying a ticket for the El Corazon show in Seattle happening on Dec 1st.. first show of the tour... then they're playing Portland Dec 2nd (Dante's).. then a week later doing UK and Ireland dates with Melvins and Big Business, then playing a final show (for this tour) in San Francisco at Cafe Duo Nerd(?)

Why shouldn't he be good after being in Nirvana?

I know he hasn't been, but still..

i was against the idea of any flipper reunion but then i saw this and changed my mind

am0n (am0n), Sunday, 19 November 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

no no, I think Krist would do fine in the band.. I was saying I'll probably regret expecting anything great out of the Flipper show overall, although the YouTube link gives me hope.

It's kinda weird how, when Pat Smear joined Nirvana, it seemed like he was coming from another era, but with Novoselic in Flipper, it's just old bands cross-pollinating, like someone from the Faces joining the Who.

bendy (bendy), Sunday, 19 November 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

kenny jones was a good drummer, i always thought he got a bad rap.

My friend told me about this and I thought "well, Flipper - that might be cool - why not?" In my opinion the gigs available around here have been dismal this year, Billy Bragg aside. I'm so sick of UK acts not coming here (Scritti Politti, Blue Nile) I'm even going to go to the Slits CD listening party at Funhouse. I went to see Buzzcocks this year too which is something I might not have done under other circumstances, but it turned out to be fantastic.

Hahaha. Matt you're so SASSY! ;) I love it.

Only The Stones Remain (Bimble...), Sunday, 19 November 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

(Seattle's been overwhelmed with great gigs this year.. YMMV, etc.)

In your opinion, etc. no offense...

Hell, Dec 1st is a Friday. I'll be there, no doubt.

I've already bought a plane ticket to see The Who in San Diego since I had no money when they came here. So I can't complain.

Flipper just played in brooklyn a month or so ago and from what I heard it was great. (I missed it.)

mcd (mcd), Sunday, 19 November 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

saw them in '91 post-Shatter and they were pretty great. Ted's guitar squall had me pretty much in open mouthed awe for most of the set, as I recall. I can't remember who played the other bass then.

wasn't he in some crap band post-nirvana or am i imagining that?

prolly will check out at atp despite never being a big flipper fan.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 November 2006 00:04 (nineteen years ago)

Sweet 75 or something?

808 the Bassking (Andrew Thames), Monday, 20 November 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

Will he be braining himself with his own bass, though?

chap who would dare to welcome our new stingray masters (chap), Monday, 20 November 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

wasn't there that lame anti-wto thing with ugh jello biafra too?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 November 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

I saw them over the summer w/ longtime cohort Bruno DeSmartass on bass. I had misgivings going in too, but am happy to confirm they sounded great. Not to be missed for anyone with even a slight interest.

The Krist on bass thing is kinda weird though. Gah! Not that I think he'll be bad, but Bruno was soooo good. It's a huge loss if he isn't playing. Wonder what happened?

cheshycat (chëshy f cat), Monday, 20 November 2006 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

wouldn't they have two bass players?

It's kind of great how Novoselic looks the oldest in that picture.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 20 November 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

x-post to hstenc:

they never used 2 basses at the same time. In the original lineup, Bruce and Will switched off on bass and singing.

At the show I saw, Bruce did do a couple songs on bass at the end (while Bruno sang a rousing version of Sex Bomb), but most of the show it was just Bruno on bass.

wow krist looks terrible. heh is that falconi w/ the grey dreads? depace looks the same

am0n (am0n), Monday, 20 November 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for the heads-up. Much as I hate El Corazon, I'll buy tickets.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Monday, 20 November 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

Saw them a couple of months ago (maybe less?) for the opening of the American Hardcore doc at TIFF and they did a couple of gigs. If you have any interest in Flipper you will like it! And yeah, the other guy who was playing bass other than Bruce was very good, but I would LOVE to see Krist playing with them. Also if you see them, chat with Bruce, he has great stories.

...then playing a final show (for this tour) in San Francisco at Cafe Duo Nerd(?)

Cafe Du Nord

tk (tk), Monday, 20 November 2006 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

I booked flipper in 1993, and it was simply amazing. I wound up singing "sacrifice" for a few minutes when Bruce threw the mike into the crowd and started disco dancing.

Uncle Tom (Uncle Tom), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 04:38 (nineteen years ago)

Just got my ticket for the Seattle show. $12... of course it comes out to nearly $20 if you get it online now after all the TicketsWest fees... but I expected the show to be more expensive at base price, and this will probably sell out. shrug.

Anyone know if they'll be doing the Melvins support slot in Glasgow in December?

Soukesian (Soukesian), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

flipper are playing glasgow garage on december 14th. i presume that's with the melvins as i wouldn't think there would be enough glaswegian flipper freaks for them to be playing such a large venue.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

i should've spent two weeks in the uk, not one. and i shoulda gone to glasgow, stirry!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)
