Bob Lablaw (Bob Lablaw), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

where is burial?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

is usually in ground.

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

"What is Food?" "It's a small town in New Hampshire."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

Cat Power in Best International Female category?!

They probably mean the American Cat Power. Confusing, isn't it?

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

Cat Power benefitting from those eMusic billboard ads possibly.

didn't think they'd have the balls to leave Robbie off Best Male.

predictions:

British Group: Snow Patrol (biggest-selling album so would make sense in that respect)

British Male: Paolo Nutini

British Album: Snow Patrol (Eyes Open).

British Female: Amy Winehouse

British Breakthrough Act: Lily Allen.

British Live Act: Robbie Williams.

International Group: Scissor Sisters

International Male: Justin Timberlake.

vita susicivus (blueski), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

note they've done away with Best Pop award.

vita susicivus (blueski), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

I'm thinking Beyonce for International Female and maybe James Morrison for British Male, but mostly I concur. The British Breakthrough Act list is pretty embarrassing.

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

note they've done away with Best Pop award.

ROCKISTS!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

it was won by James Blunt last year so probably best

vita susicivus (blueski), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

Who's getting Lifetime Achievement this year?

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

wasis

acrobat (elwisty), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

Aw bless.

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

I hate the BRIT Awards, it's always mainstream crap.

compare and contrast, how they do things in Norway:

http://www.spellemann.no/nomine.html
separate prizes for jazz, metal, pop, rock, blues, country, hip hop, folk, open class [experimental] etc

The Norwegian methodology ensures a greater diversity of music is acknowledged

When it comes to music media & awards, why is Britain so culturally conservative, narrow focused and ignorant?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

note they've done away with Best Pop award.

ROCKISTS!

Where's the Best Rock Award?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

xpost

yeah they should never have cancelled the Smash Hits Poll-Winners' Party

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

they got rid of electronic / dance music award a few years ago as well

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

and the Best Camden Lurch award, bastards

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

..ha the NME awards fill that niche b-shit award

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

when did they ditch best single?

pisces (piscesx), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

They didn't, it's going to be decided with SMS votes during the show.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

Vat is point?

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 07:23 (nineteen years ago)

My point? Or the awards'?

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Will Young or Take That for best single or I'm gonna go down there and take hostages.

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

But they're up against the bestest single of the universe in the history of ever, as voted by the listeners of Virgin Radio!

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

Oh god, which one was that?

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

that car one by the snow guys

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:28 (nineteen years ago)

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

I don't even know what that is.

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:32 (nineteen years ago)

Good to see Cat Power there but she won't win.

Winner of everything: Annie Lennox, as usual.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:32 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I do recognise that Snow Patrol one. It's horrible. (And I kinda like some Snow Patrol tracks.)

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

Surprised at the lack of Take That in this list.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

They only got nommed for Best Single, but then they are not the bright young face of the all-downloads all-the-time future aka Lily Alleng.

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

Good to see the Best International Beck award still going.

MitchellStirling (MitchellStirling), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

So the Brits have been colonised by the Cool Police, just as in 1989, and we all know how successful that proved.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:56 (nineteen years ago)

Girls Aloud outsell the Beatles by 135 copies and yet they're not on the list either.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

Neither are the Beatles.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

And yet, Jarvis Cocker with his 2800-selling album.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

And yet, Jarvis Cocker with his 2800-selling album.

so why are you happy to see cat power on the list?

lex pretend (lex pretend), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

Hello everyone do you think that Norwegian Methodology have a chance?

Storefront Church (688), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

Because Cat Power's a happening woman, whereas Jarvis is a grumpy grandad.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey, his kid had a baby already?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:47 (nineteen years ago)

Why isn't Momus on the Best Male list? I mean, Lemar? He's not even on Never Mind The Buzzcocks anymore!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

Because Cat Power's a happening woman, whereas Jarvis is a grumpy grandad.

i like cat power but she's far from happening! jarvis is grumpy grandad yes. couldn't care less about nominations but using sales to denigrate one isn't wise when the only one you're happy about sold even less.

lex pretend (lex pretend), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

Where's Joanna Newsom then?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

Four (or strictly speaking three and a half) black acts in the whole list. Mustn't upset our Cameronite demographic must we?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

correction: five/four and a half (how could I forget Lemar? Punchlines on a postcard please)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

J.Newsom, selling less than Cat Power?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

She's less happening except on paper.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae: nominations list or game of "Fuck, Date, Marry"?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

Who gives a shit about the nominations? Bring on the bad behaviour. Of which there should hopefully be plenty with Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse on the same list.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

George Michael is the only legit junkie nominated though.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

Lily and Amy are pals.

Junkie? bit strong innit?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

the Spellemann awards and BRITs are two totally different ballparks. England has a musical export industry, while Norwegian music exports is limited to metal and jazz. BRIT awards aim to be an international television event. The Spellemann, not so much.

Brede Trollsås (FunkDirt), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

Oasis vs. Lily: fite?

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure Lallen won't win an award because she's better copy and more marketable when she's being a bit chippy.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

or when she's just come out of the chippy.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

didn't keane have an album last year. poor keane.

acrobat (elwisty), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

marcello what happened in 1989? the cool police thing? was that the mick fleetwood year??!

pisces (piscesx), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

compare / contrast UK Top 100 selling albums 2006

acrobat (elwisty), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

It was the Mick Fleetwood/Sam Fox year where they tried to make it more credible (Deacon Blue etc. ahem) and Cliff Richard told the audience to "grow up."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Keane was disqualified because of the singers drug problems.

zeus (zeus), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

AND WE DID!!!

(xpost TIMING!)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

I wrote a letter to the NME (which they printed) saying "wasn't it good".. (heh)

"None of these bands have their own highly lucractive brand of cartoon books, cheap cash-in albums, and upcoming tv serieseses. How can we respect them?"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 12:32 (nineteen years ago)
