The Marble Index and Desertshore are much more like it.
Is Ed Rush a pseudonym?

Nico's records on the other hand never did much for me (except the Velvet's 1st album).

Nico, on the other hand, is wonderful, and the best place to start would be Chelsea Girl.

I know two of her albums - Desertshore and The End.
I like them both. They are incredibly doomey, visions into a world of despair. Quite why anyone would enjoy listening to them is unclear, but I do.
James Young's book "Songs They Never Play On The Radio", about being in Nico's last touring band, is one of the best books about music ever written. "Aaare we near the border?"

Manchester Nico, though, is not for me.

But the last post on this thread bothers me in particular. I also really loved the Cale version of "Frozen Warnings" on that documentary, probably more than I've loved anything by Cale, and it's actually very easy to find...if I can just remember how or where. Which I can't right now. I'll have to give it some thought.

Into numberless reflectionsRises a smile from your eyes into mineFrozen warnings close to mineClose to the frozen borderlineFrozen warnings close to mineClose to the frozen borderline

Yeah. I've just finished reading this and it is hilarious and tragic and very well written. The descriptions of Cale are a hoot.

There was one - I think at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club - where some guy kept shouting out "Where's John Cale?". At first she humoured him, saying "Aiii haaaaven't seeeen him in a loooong time" - but he was in the grip of an obsession and continued through the set.
Around the same time (1984 i think), I saw John Cale at the Venue in Victoria. It was a fairly smallish place (now an ASK pizza joint), and up close he looked, in some kind of baggy jump suit, like he had the movements of a old aged pensioner. He looks in better shape these days.
