those songs are the best!!!!!!

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 04:08 (nineteen years ago)

I like Tikiman's vocals on that album (especially on "What a Mistry"), but the instrumental "versions" of the tunes are pretty useless.

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:23 (nineteen years ago)

wrong

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:56 (nineteen years ago)

well, the first two versions are great cuz the rhythm tracks are so good. the rest are not.

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

Okay.

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

(x-post)

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:58 (nineteen years ago)

actually, what a mistry is the best song in that series, and the production is stands on its own also

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:58 (nineteen years ago)

sorry i was so brusque

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, maybe I was wishing they'd done some remixing instead of just putting the backing tracks there. Some more dub effects, maybe?

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 March 2007 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, they're hardly "versions" if it's just the same instrumental track minus the vocals.

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 March 2007 08:05 (nineteen years ago)

Uh that is the exact concept of the "version", originating in dub. Sometimes bits of the vocals are left & played with.

blunt, Thursday, 29 March 2007 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

I thought "version" = dub version, i.e. the instrumental track put through a dub treatment, not just released as such.

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 March 2007 08:28 (nineteen years ago)

i picked up red planet 04 the other day, what a shitty boring record.

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

sex in zero gravity is AMAZING!! those low bassy rave keys that start out the song and carry it through, the really high pitched keys that seem to stretch out, the wide open hi-hats, that perfect bubbling acid line! oh god! yes!

lfam, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

and then ultraviolet images on the b-side is rough and spacy like cosmic movement

You haven't listened to them properly. they are NOT instrumentals.

Fuck yes! It's all about those syncopated chord stabs with the vibrato. Perfect track. Red Planet 4 has been killing me too recently, especially 'Search your Feelings'. It obsoletes Booka Shade 10 years before the fact.

version has always meant vocal-less b-side. dub grew out from that. two different things
