Say something interesting about brian Eno's "Third Uncle"

This song just popped into my head and it struck me that this is seriously the GREATEST ROCK SONG EVER!! everything i want from a song - insane guitar, nonsense lyrics that somehow still require close attention, dynamics, propulsive momentum - it's all there. i luv me some early eno, but TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN has always been my fav - perhaps this song is the one that puts it above all....... i have never heard the Bauhaus cover, i'm sure it's ok...... what do you think??

Thers a good version of it at the "801 live" lp (Eno + Manzerra live)

i just got into Eno days ago after years of avoidance, because i thought it was just some lame electronic crap

i really love his early catchy tunes, where he actually sings. but i still maintain that everything else is just pretentious computer crap

This song rules. The bass! Those drums! That guitar!

The Bauhaus cover isn't quite as perfect, but it also rules.

theoreo wayyyyy OffTM

The live Zongamin cover of this floating around P2P networks is pretty damn great.

Curiously, Eno doesn't seem so relevant these days, even if his greatness is undisputed. I don't think that's a contradiction. He was just too much his own genre.

i've heard a live bauhaus tape, where they came on to "jupiter" from holsts planets & then went straight into "third uncle". it worked really well, almost mashup like.

Are you sure you don't mean mars? Because mars kind of has that same beat.

oh yeh. mars.

I once almost got myself in real trouble by dancing to this in the music room in high school (with hardly anyone around), while swinging a really long wooden plank. (I don't know what it was doing there, but it seemed like something you would use in construction.) The plank came close to hitting the stereo itself.

Third Uncle? Yeah, I put it on a mix for a friend, and this was easily his favorite. After that I sent him all the Eno pop albums, and I think he was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more material at the level of Third Uncle. We both agree that Taking Tiger Mountain takes the prize for best Eno pop album.

manzanera's guitar near the end is terrifying. it sounds like he's ripping sheetmetal or something!

i probably prefer 'the true wheel', to be honest.

I have to buy this album on CD some time. (It will be the third format I've bought it in. *sigh*)

(The drumming on the Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana version of Shiina Ringo's "Ishiki" reminds me of the drumming on Taking Tiger Mountain.)

(No I never shut up about her. Maybe another year or so and it will be out of my system. But that track really does remind me of Taking Tiger Mountain.)
