ILX has a chance to chip in and buy it's own pop band.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Sunday, 1 April 2007 21:40 (seventeen years ago) link

do you actually get to own swedish people?

And due to the highly characteristic nature of the music, the songs of Rednex often participate in films. The Negotiator (1998) featuring Samuel Jackson & Kevin Spacey is one of several Hollywood productions using Rednex's country dance tracks to energize their pictures.

It's a first - even for show business! A successful pop band with dozens
of international Top 10's and No.1's in over 15 countries is actually for sale.

And we don't mean for sale as in, "hire them for your next festival".
No, we mean completely for sale as in:

IT'S ALL YOURS!!!

- the buyer gets it all:

The Music - the Trademark - the Band
The Tour - the Record Deals - the Web Site
The Record Releases - the Plans - the Contacts
The Contracts - the Styling - the Catalogue
(all previous hits and recordings)
And of course… ... the opportunities… ... the future...

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Sunday, 1 April 2007 22:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't really understand how this works, assuming it's real. Would the buyer then have to pay the band salaries? Otherwise what would keep them motivated to keep going?

Hurting 2, Monday, 2 April 2007 02:48 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, so if I bought this, I could (or indeed, would have to..)

get four or five people to dance and sing the songs,

hire or make costumes and that...

and be able to go into Polydor records (say),

and say "Hi, we're the Rednex (of Cotton Eye Joe fame), would you like to issue our new album?"

(when I say go into Polydor records, I mean the foyer obviously)

Mark G, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:35 (seventeen years ago) link

So what's the bidding up to? That first number amount makes no sense.

Mark G, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:36 (seventeen years ago) link

This reminds me of one time I was driving home from upnorth, and the DJ was trying to get someone interested in becoming "Unit 4 + 2" for a tour of Germany. They were famous in the sixties for their big hit "My feet begin to crumble"

Mark G, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:42 (seventeen years ago) link

dozens
of international Top 10's and No.1's in over 15 countries

... so how come we only ever heard that one song then?

It would be teh rofflez to buy all this and hand the whole package over to, say, william bennett?

Does eBay get this if the sale goes through?

StanM, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Stan M, are you forgetting "Old Pop in a hole" ?

Mark G, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Old Pop In An Oak, actually. I think.

Matt DC, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:58 (seventeen years ago) link

OMG! Yes, I had somehow succeeded in forgetting about that one. :-/

StanM, Monday, 2 April 2007 09:59 (seventeen years ago) link

so there's a $25,000 reward...

What's the bid?

Mark G, Monday, 2 April 2007 10:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Also did that actually go up on eBay on, y'know, April Fool's Day?

Matt DC, Monday, 2 April 2007 10:00 (seventeen years ago) link

This would be such a smart move. 1.5 mil is a steal.

20-year nostalgia cycle hasn't even hit on that song. Sit on "Cotton Eye Joe" for 10 years and license it to some "Hey remember wacky-ass 1997" movie with Jim Carrey Jr. in 2017 (with "Blue Da Ba Dee" and "Barbie Girl" on the soundtrack). Then count your millions.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 2 April 2007 13:41 (seventeen years ago) link

i really do think we should do this.

strongohulkington, Monday, 2 April 2007 13:54 (seventeen years ago) link

in a few years once we fix them up a little bit and get them onto a couple of cartoon network soundtracks, we can trade rednex in for 2 unlimited.

strongohulkington, Monday, 2 April 2007 13:54 (seventeen years ago) link

I already have Two Hyped Brothers & A Dog that I'm not doing anything with.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 2 April 2007 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

if i was an internet billionaire i would totally just get a couple of other internet billionaire pals and play magic: the gathering-style games with various washed-up techno-pop bands

strongohulkington, Monday, 2 April 2007 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

then i'd buy two adjacent towns in an eastern european country and make them fight each other

strongohulkington, Monday, 2 April 2007 13:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Today the band lives in Sweden, but has previously lived in Amsterdam, Berlin and Brunkeflo. The original lead singer Mary Joe (a.k.a. Annika Ljungberg) came back to the band in 2004 after a 6 years absence. She is the person running the everyday business of the band, including releases etc., as she has a power of attorney to do so until 2008.

Right, so Annika can sign all the cheques she wants to for the next 1.75 years?

Mark G, Monday, 2 April 2007 14:22 (seventeen years ago) link

NAKED AND WITH NO WEAPONS

latebloomer, Monday, 2 April 2007 14:25 (seventeen years ago) link

actually it'd probably have to be somewhere with a strong c.i.a. presence where we don't really care about pitting people against each other in unarmed combat to the death
