Album-wise, I'd only save Opal's "Early Recordings" and MBV "Ecstasy and Wine". Plus my pile of Caff 7" singles, and MBV's "The New Record By..".

What, Tad? No collection of Noam Chomsky and Ralph Nader spoken word pieces?

Give this question a couple of years and I think it might be simpler to say "which of your mp3 drives would you save because of a house fire?"

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i wouldn't run in a burning building to save any goddamn record album. jesus christ, 5 x 15 = 75. i can spare it.

i'd probably grab metal box/second edition on the way out though. that's about it.

jess, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Frank Zappa: We're only in it for the money Genesis: Foxtrot Kiss: Alive! Rush: 2112 Yes: The Yes album

Dan, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank you Jess, I was about to say the same thing.

mt, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

since i left you, because you can't buy the version with the robert de niro sample on it anymore. and all my other avalanches rare stuff. the rest is replaceable, conceivably. but goddammit, i'd at least try and stuff a few dozen down my pants... i've wasted too much money and time for FIRE to ruin it all. here's hoping if it happens i'm wearing happy pants (fire-retardant, of course)

minna, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

changes all the time but at the mo: MBV - loveless yo la tengo - and then nothing turned itself inside out low - secret name teenage fanclub - grand prix radiohead - kid a

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think I would risk major skin grafts only for those records (all vinyl) I'm pretty sure I couldn't replace and couldn't live without. Hence:

Public Image Ltd. - Metal Box DNA - A Taste of DNA Bo Diddley - The Originator Buddy Holly - The Buddy Holly Story box set ? and the Mysterians - "96 Tears" seven-inch

lee g, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Although I have a lot of favorites, I almost wish that all music would be burned beyond recognition in a giant fire. Then the world could start over. (And Blink 182, etc. would have to die in the fire as well.)

Otherwise, Opal's Early Recordings is all I can think of. (Why can't someone rerelease it already?)

Dave225, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MBV - you made me realise EP Warp Records - Blech Compillations Truman's Water - Of Thick Tum Influx - Unique Bear Quartet - Headacher/Blizzard 7'

These are all records i would probably find difficult to replace if i lost them in a fire.

Alex G, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What, Tad? No collection of Noam Chomsky and Ralph Nader spoken word pieces?

Silly Ned! I'd only save my Jello Biafra spoken word pieces! ;-p

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Folina Vili's "Canongate", The Aesthetics "My Right To Riches", Tall Dwarfs "Canned Music", Tall Dwarfs "Thats The Short and Long Of IT", The Terminals "Little Things".

di, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

going for the one (yes) - still life (vdgg) - the autumn stone (small faces) - the unforgettable fire (u2) - who's next (the who).

cecilia, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Otherwise, Opal's Early Recordings is all I can think of. (Why can't someone rerelease it already?)

This I cannot work out either. I wonder who owns the rights after Rough Trade bought the farm? I would have thought Opal ripe for reissue after Mazzy Star got big... Hello? Rykodisc?

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Minna: could you tell me some more about the De Niro sample? On which version(s) is it, and on which song?

Orange, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...

Where is this building and why are my records there?

oops (Oops), Friday, 24 October 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd probably grab metal box/second edition on the way out though. that's about it.

careful, man! that box could be awfully damn hot. you might want to pick it up with a wet towel or something.

fact checking cuz, Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

1. white vinyl Ranking Dread Kunta Kinte Roots
everything else can be replaced

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Several Thompson Twins CDs, plus maybe a couple rare powerpop items

Why? Simply because they are now deleted, and hard to find...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 25 October 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ok. so they gotta be stuff I can't just buy on a moments notice (for instance I'm not saving Let It Be cuz they reissued that recently)......ummm...and I gotta be moving fast and making rash judgements so they aren't actually the best ones

Bats Daddy's Highway
Mudhoney March To Fuzz
Stereolab Refried Ectoplasm
Sloan Twice Removed
Stereolab Transient Random-Noise Bursts

Wtf? Why did I save two Stereolab albums? Must have been the smoke.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 25 October 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Especially since I didn't save any Rocket From The Crypt!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 25 October 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Laughing Stock, Independency, Hex (because they took me ages to find), and whichever other two first popped into my head as being difficult/impossible to replace.
