11. "Disco Mystic" - Lou Reed

JN$OT, Saturday, 5 May 2007 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

i mean he was wordy and stuff, but they were playing with those sounds. Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick isn't really an aberation

artdamages, Saturday, 5 May 2007 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

12. Wings - Goodnight Tonight !!

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 5 May 2007 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

ELO is also iffy on the non-disco, I mean obviously they had a broad track record as "art-minded pop" or whatever but their catalogue has enough disco-esque moments to make you wonder.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 5 May 2007 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

i like calling bands disco

artdamages, Saturday, 5 May 2007 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

and derailing list threads

artdamages, Saturday, 5 May 2007 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

How much Steve Miller Band are we counting? And I think there was some inexplicable Ry Cooder disco too...

I eat cannibals, Saturday, 5 May 2007 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

there s another thread 'they weren't disco but they went disco' too somewhere.

pisces, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

14. Diana Ross - "Love Hangover"
15. The Eagles - "One of These Nights"

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

16. Rolling Stones - "Emotional Rescue"

goldmatt, Saturday, 5 May 2007 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

"Emotional Rescue" was from 1980.

In the case of Diana Ross I'm not certain whether I'd count her as obviously non disco. Maybe in 1976, but not later.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

It was recorded in 1979, though.

goldmatt, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

17. Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall

Billy Dods, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

Erm, yeah. This must Part II.

Billy Dods, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:24 (nineteen years ago)

I hadn't pegged "Cool For Cats" as disco... just heard it yesterday too, not feelin it on that score.

Saxby D. Elder, Sunday, 6 May 2007 00:26 (nineteen years ago)

21. The Eagles - The Disco Strangler
22. Chicago - Street Player (underrated!)
23. Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell
24. The Beach Boys - Here Comes the Night

I feel like Foreigner must've had at least one of these, but I have no idea what

The Good Dr. Bill, Sunday, 6 May 2007 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, repeat on that last one.

The Good Dr. Bill, Sunday, 6 May 2007 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

I wouldn't say Chicago's Street Player's underrated, considering it's been edited, bootlegged and sampled to death. I'd say of all the songs listsed so far it's got the most cred in dance crowds. You can still get the Rated X edit/bootleg and any number of DJ shops.

dan selzer, Sunday, 6 May 2007 02:04 (nineteen years ago)

25. japan - life in tokyo. there is even a slowed down cosmic mix

creme1, Sunday, 6 May 2007 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

man, i was gonna say shirley and company. but that's more an anomalous occurence and it was released in 75. #12 on the charts, though! not bad for a woman who was a sonny & cher session singer at one point.

Since when were these 'obviously non-disco acts'?

Billy Dods, Sunday, 6 May 2007 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

uh yeah. all of them are, in fact, obvious disco acts. perhaps fetchboy read the thread title wrong or something?

the table is the table, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

the table is the table, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

31. Abba - Gimme Gimme Gimme..

What about "Summer Night City", "Voulez-Vous?" and "Dancing Queen"?

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 7 May 2007 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

48. Four Seasons - "December, 1963"

goldmatt, Monday, 7 May 2007 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

You could also add "The Name Of The Game" for ABBA. Slightly slower, but still very much of a disco-feel.

In the case of Roxy Music, they did disco on several tracks already in 1975.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 7 May 2007 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

28. David Bowie - Fashion

I wouldn't call that very disco. Surely Bowie did songs that were a hell of a lot more disco than that.

underpants of the gods, Monday, 7 May 2007 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

The Walker Brothers' Nite Flights is a great new wave/disco album.

underpants of the gods, Monday, 7 May 2007 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Amon Duul II - Da Guadaloop
Can - Aspectacle

Dan Peterson, Monday, 7 May 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know what number we're at now, so:

Heart-Straight On
Can-I Need More
Ry Cooder-The UFO Has Landed In The Ghetto (might be from '80 or '81)

C. Grisso/McCain, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

The Clash, "Lost in the Supermarket"
PiL, "Memories"

extend into the '80s and you get the Suburbs and Crass in here...

Pete Scholtes, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

Can - I want more.

Shit is totally amazeo too.

jim, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

Oh just noticed C.Grisso mentioned, he got the name wrong tho so I'm cool.

jim, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

are we all on the same thread?

henry s, Monday, 7 May 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

A couple of Zappa ones: "Disco Boy" and "Dancin' Fool"

C. Grisso/McCain, Monday, 7 May 2007 22:13 (nineteen years ago)
